JIMMIE: HEY EVERYONE. HAPPY WEDNESDAY TO YOU.
TEMPERATURES ARE STARTING TO FALL IN OMAHA.
DEFINITELY FEELING LIKE FALL. NOT THE CASE FOR MY FRIENDS IN FLORIDA.
WE ALL CAN’T ESCAPE THE WEATHER OR THE NEWS…
LET’S GET STRAIGHT TO IT.
IN D-C TODAY, SENATE REPUBLICANS BLOCKED DEMOCRATS ATTEMPTS TO PASS A SWEEPING VOTING RIGHTS BILL. THE LEGISLATION AIMED TO CREATE A NATIONAL STANDARD FOR EARLY VOTING AND VOTE-BY-MAIL, AND ESTABLISH ELECTION DAY AS A FEDERAL HOLIDAY.
FORMER SECRETARY OF STATE CONDOLEEZZA RICE MADE AN APPEARANCE ON THE VIEW TALK SHOW TODAY. SHE GAVE A TRIBUTE TO THE LATE GEN. COLIN POWELL WHO DIED MONDAY FROM COVID COMPLICATIONS, CONDEMNED THE ATTACKS ON JANUARY SIXTH, AND ALSO WEIGHED IN ON THE FUTURE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
CONDOLEEZZA RICE: “As to what I want to see in my party, I want to see the next generation of leadership step up. I want those of us who have been there, done that, to step back. And I want to move on to a better America.”
JIMMIE: STUDENTS AT HOWARD UNIVERSITY, A HISTORICALLY BLACK UNIVERSITY IN WASHINGTON, D.C. CONTINUE TO PROTEST INHUMANE HOUSING CONDITIONS ON CAMPUS. STUDENTS HAVE OCCUPIED A BUILDING ON CAMPUS SINCE OCTOBER 12TH AND SAY THEY WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL THEIR NEEDS ARE MET.
PROTESTER: ”So, what we have to do is to represent and influence HBCUs everywhere, because there are so many demands and problems that HBCUs face that they’re not even looked at as legitimate. Everyone is trying to compare Howard to Harvard, but nobody trying to go, Harvard, no way.”
JIMMIE: AND SOCIAL MEDIA GIANT FACEBOOK SAYS IT’S GETTING A FACELIFT. MORE LIKE A NAME CHANGE. TAYLOR HAS MORE. SO, THAT’S ALL THE NEWS I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY. JOIN US BACK HERE AGAIN TOMORROW.
