Shannon Longworth: A deadly earthquake in Afghanistan has claimed hundreds of lives, and now, residents are working to recover.
At least one-thousand are dead and another 15-hundred injured after the quake hit the eastern part of the country.
It registered as a 6.1 magnitude quake.
The death toll is already the highest from an earthquake in the country since 2002. And it could *still* rise.
The disaster also serves as a test for the relatively new Taliban-led government.
It’s already dealing with a hunger and economic crisis.
If you recall, the Taliban took over following the U-S’s withdrawal of forces last year– bringing an end to the 20-year war.
Taliban officials are asking for international help.
The U-N responded, saying it’s assessing the needs and working to help those affected.
