YOU CAN GET JUST ABOUT ANYTHING FROM WALMART.
FROM ELECTRONICS AND GROCERIES TO CLOTHING, HOME SUPPLIES, AND EVEN AUTOCARE.
And now- you can add SOLAR POWER to your shopping cart. Well, sort of.
WALMART ANNOUNCED THIS WEEK PLANS TO INVEST IN 26 SOLAR PROJECTS ACROSS THE U.S.
THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE RESIDENTIAL ZONES WITH ENOUGH ENERGY TO POWER ABOUT 13,000 HOUSEHOLDS. THE PROJECT WOULD POTENTIALLY SAVE A COLLECTIVE 8-MILLION-DOLLARS A YEAR IN ENERGY COSTS FOR THOSE IMPACTED. WALMART SAYS THREE-QUARTERS OF THOSE SAVINGS WILL BE DIRECTED TOWARDS LOW AND MODERATE-INCOME HOMES.
THE RETAIL GIANT PLANS TO FURTHER EXPAND ITS HOLDINGS IN GREEN ENERGY PROJECTS OVER THE COMING YEARS.
BY 20-30, PRODUCING UP TO 10 GIGAWATTS OF ELECTRICITY FROM RENEWABLES. THAT’S ENOUGH TO POWER MORE THAN 2 MILLION HOMES.
THE COMPANY ALREADY HAS MORE THAN 600 CLEAN ENERGY PROJECTS IN OPERATION OR UNDER DEVELOPMENT SPANNING MORE THAN 10 COUNTRIES.
WALMART HAS SOME LOFTY GOALS RELATED TO RENEWABLE ENERGY.
JUST A FEW YEARS AGO THE COMPANY WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR ROUGHLY THE SAME AMOUNT OF CARBON EMISSIONS CREATED 6 BILLION LITERS OF GASOLINE.
WE’LL BE WATCHING TO SEE HOW THIS SPARK OF AN IDEA PROGRESSES.
