2.2 billion gallons of water flowed out of California reservoirs because of Trump’s order to open dams

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers opened two dams in central California, releasing roughly 2.2 billion gallons of water from Friday, Jan. 31, to Sunday, Feb. 2, following an order from President Donald Trump. Experts noted that the released water will not reach Los Angeles and is wasted during the wet winter season.

The release of water puts agriculture at risk of insufficient supply during the summer months, according to local water districts. Trump celebrated the release on Truth Social, stating, “The water is flowing in California,” and claimed it was “heading to farmers throughout the state, and to Los Angeles.”
