Canada to buy helicopters, drones to meet Trump’s demand for tighter border security

Canada will enhance security at its shared border with the U.S. by adding helicopters and drones, Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Monday, Dec. 2. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government aims to address U.S. concerns, especially regarding fentanyl production and illegal immigration.

The discussion at the meeting also included issues of gun smuggling from the U.S. into Canada.

The move comes in response to President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose tariffs against Canada unless the country curbs the flow of drugs and migrants into the U.S., a CBC News report said.
