Congo says rebel uprising in its east has killed over 7,000 people this year

More than 7,000 people have died this year due to the fighting by Rwanda-backed M23 rebels, according to Congo’s prime minister. Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka stated that the security and humanitarian situation in the region has reached alarming levels.

Around 450,000 people are without shelter after the destruction of 90 displacement camps.

Tuluka urged the world to impose dissuasive sanctions due to mass displacements and summary executions.
