First two Jan. 6 prisoners released after Trump’s day 1 pardon

Supporters of Donald Trump who attacked the U.S. Capitol will start leaving prison, pardoned by the new president on Inauguration Day. The pardon of 1,500 defendants drew outrage from lawmakers endangered in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack.

Two brothers, Andrew and Matthew Valentin, were released after being pardoned for their roles in the Jan. 6 riots. The brothers were just sentenced on Friday, Jan. 17 to two and a half years in prison.

A growing group of supporters gathered outside the D.C. Jail, hoping for changes to the issues from 2020.
