G20 leaders to grapple with climate, taxes and Trump comeback in Brazil

G20 leaders are meeting in Brazil to discuss climate financing and poverty, amid concerns about Donald Trump’s potential return to power. President Joe Biden will attend the summit as a lame-duck leader, while Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to take a prominent role.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged G20 countries to demonstrate leadership in addressing the global climate crisis, as they produce 80 percent of emissions.

At last year’s G20, leaders called for tripling renewable energy sources by the end of the decade. However, they didn’t explicitly call for an end to the use of fossil fuels.
