Guards ‘systematically and casually’ beat New York inmate to death, lawsuit says

The son of an inmate filed a federal lawsuit claiming that New York prison guards “systematically and casually beat him to death” in a violent correctional system. Body camera video shows officers repeatedly punching and kicking the inmate, Brooks, while his hands were cuffed behind his back.
Preliminary medical findings indicate that Brooks’ death was due to “asphyxia due to compression of the neck” and actions of another. Fifteen correctional officers and two nurses were suspended without pay following the incident.
