House Ethics panel recommends further review of campaign finance allegations against 2 lawmakers

The House Congressional Ethics Panel is recommending further investigation of U.S. Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., for likely violating federal campaign finance laws by inflating a personal loan amount. Ogles reported a $320,000 personal loan for his campaign, but later amended it to only $20,000 and claimed the rest was in a joint account with his wife.
The Ethics Board found substantial reason to believe Ogles misrepresented required information in his finance disclosure statements and campaign reports.
The Office of Congressional Ethics began reviewing Ogles’ finances after media reports raised questions about his ability to lend his campaign $320,000. The other lawmaker named in the report is Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-Fla.
