Johnson aide advised against subpoena of star Jan. 6 witness over concerns about ‘sexual texts’ from lawmakers

An aide to House Speaker Mike Johnson advised against subpoenaing Cassidy Hutchinson to protect against the release of sexually explicit texts from lawmakers, as stated in correspondence reviewed by The Washington Post. Johnson revived the investigation into the Jan. 6 attack, which is part of an effort by President Donald Trump and his allies to seek retribution against perceived political enemies

Johnson’s office expressed concerns that subpoenaing Hutchinson could reveal embarrassing information, including sexual texts from lawmakers trying to engage in sexual favors.

Georgia Republican Rep. Barry Loudermilk considered subpoenaing Hutchinson for testimony, believing she could provide fresh information.
