Nearly half of GOP voters support military detaining migrants in US: Survey

A new Public Religion Research Institute survey found that 46% of Republican voters support the U.S. military detaining undocumented immigrants in internment camps until deportation. GOP voters are more than twice as likely as Independents and over five times as likely as Democrats to support military detention of migrants.

The PRRI survey, conducted between Nov. 8 and Dec. 2, included a representative sample of 5,772 adults living in the U.S.

More than 11 million migrants entered the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection numbers.

President-elect Donald Trump said he believes that number is closer to 21 million migrants and that he will declare a national emergency to address immigration.

Trump and his incoming “border czar,” Tom Homan, have said they will use all means necessary to carry out their plan of mass deportations, including the military.
