New charges target ex-Miami congressman for lobbying on behalf of sanctioned Venezuelan tycoon

New charges have been filed against a former Rep. David Rivera from Miami for lobbying on behalf of a sanctioned Venezuelan tycoon. The former congressman is accused of violating lobbying disclosure laws.
The Venezuelan tycoon is under U.S. sanctions for alleged ties to corruption. The investigation into the former congressman has been ongoing for several months. Rivera is said to have lobbied during mid-2019 and mid-2020 for the tycoon, and he reportedly also received help from another unnamed official from New York, who was paid some of the over $5.5 million reportedly given to him by Venezuelan media tycoon Raúl Gorrín.
