Palestinians fear a repeat of their 1948 mass expulsion in the wake of Trump’s remarks on Gaza

President Donald Trump suggested that displaced Palestinians in Gaza be permanently resettled outside the territory and that the United States take “ownership” of the enclave. Many Palestinians fear they will never return to their homes due to the destruction in Gaza.

Palestinians will mark the 77th anniversary of their mass expulsion from what is now Israel, which is central to their national struggle.

There are concerns that this situation could lead to a repeat of their painful history on a larger scale.
