Senate Democrats block GOP’s ‘born-alive’ abortion bill

Senate Democrats blocked the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act by a 52-47 vote along party lines, failing to invoke cloture on the bill. The bill aimed to prohibit healthcare practitioners from failing to care for children born alive after an abortion.
Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., stated that the bill would save lives and emphasized that every life is valuable. Meanwhile, Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., expressed disappointment that every Senate Democrat voted against the bill, making it a partisan issue. However, Democrats say that passing a “born-alive” bill is unnecessary, as killing a child born alive after an abortion already constitutes an illegal act.
