Senior DOJ officials leaked investigation details before election: Report

Three senior Department of Justice officials leaked investigation details before the 2024 election, according to an investigative summary by the Office of the Inspector General. The report said the leak allegedly involved sensitive details that were supposed to remain confidential.

The OIG released the investigative summary on Monday, saying it investigated allegations it received that “actions by a litigating division were politically motivated and violated DOJ policies regarding disclosing information about ongoing matters.”

Attorney General Merrick Garland hinted at consequences for those involved in the leaks. However, the investigative summary did not name the three officials accused of leaking the sensitive information.

“The three senior DOJ officials were not employed by DOJ when the OIG contacted them for interviews and either declined or did not respond to the OIG’s interview requests,” the summary said.

According to multiple reports, whistleblowers brought forth evidence supporting the claims of misconduct.
