UnitedHealth books better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit

UnitedHealth posted a profit of $5.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024, exceeding expectations of $6.73 per share as reported by analysts from FactSet. The company’s revenue was $100.8 billion, which fell short of the forecasted $101.6 billion according to analysts’ expectations.

Medicaid enrollment dropped by about 400,000 people compared to the previous year, affecting the company’s performance after the COVID-19 pandemic.

UnitedHealth reaffirmed its 2025 earnings forecast of $29.50 to $30 per share, amid cost pressures from specialty drugs and Medicare funding cuts.
