US consumer confidence plummets in February, biggest monthly decline since 2021

U.S. consumer confidence dropped significantly in February, marking the biggest decline in over four years, according to The Conference Board. The consumer confidence index fell to 98.3 in February, down from 105.3 in January.

This decline of 7 points is the largest month-to-month drop since August 2021. The index has fallen for three consecutive months, indicating a negative assessment of current economic conditions and future outlook among Americans. The decline comes as President Donald Trump threatens tariffs on trading partners.
