Just one week after his historic election win, President-elect Donald Trump has already announced several key picks for his administration, prioritizing MAGA loyalists. With a defeated Democratic Party, Trump now holds power alongside a Republican-controlled Senate and likely a Republican-controlled House.

Watch the video above as Straight Arrow News contributor Newt Gingrich commends Trump on his victory and argues that Democrats face a tough road ahead as they strategize on how to counter the momentum of an energized Republican voting bloc.

The following is an excerpt from the above video:

The 2024 election turned out, I think, to be much more historic than anybody in the elite news media expected. Not only did President Trump win the Electoral College, which everyone had conceded was possible, but he won a majority of the American people’s vote, which I think almost no one on the Left expected. That’s really important, because when you win a majority, you really have a kind of moral authority that you don’t get if you only have a plurality and win [sic] by the Electoral College.

So, Trump enters this new administration much stronger than he was in 2016 and, of course, he’s also stronger because he survived two impeachment efforts, a whole series of legal attacks, an assassination attempt. If you think about it, this is a guy who has earned his way in, whether you’re for or against him. It’s a pretty astonishing example of sheer endurance.

But he did more than just win his race. The momentum he developed gave the Republicans control of the U.S. Senate, which is a big shift and an important shift.

So Trump enters this new administration much stronger than he was in 2016 and of course, he’s also stronger because he survived two impeachment efforts, a whole series of legal attacks, an assassination attempt, if you think about it, this is a guy who has earned his way in whether you’re former against him, it’s a pretty astonishing example of sheer endurance. But he did more than just win his race, the momentum he developed gave the Republicans control of the US Senate, which is a big shift and an important shift if you’re going to try to, for example, get your Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense approved by the Senate. Having the Republicans in control makes it much easier than it would have been if the Democrats had had a majority still and apparently, with the last final votes being counted in California, which always seems to take forever, the Republicans will have control of the House, not by a very big majority, but they’ll have control. So the question now is, can a team under our constitutional system of divided power, can a team in the Senate, in the House and in the White House work together in order to get things done for the Democrats? This was a shattering defeat that really they’ve been a roller coaster emotionally. They knew all spring that President Biden was getting weaker and less capable of doing his job. Then he did so badly in the debate with President Trump that some key players, particularly Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama, decided to knock him out of being able to even run for president again. He then sort of got even because he endorsed Kamala Harris, which was not their choice. There was a period where the news media propped her up, and suddenly she went from being unelectable to being somebody who has a real shot at winning. And then gradually she began to erode the emotional roller coaster that the Democrats have been on the fact that they nominated somebody who did not get a single vote from a single delegate, that they earned the debt get a single vote in the primaries or in the caucuses, and then that person got defeated. And in fact, I think Joe Biden can make a case he would have run at least as good and maybe a better race than she did. So the result is you’re now going to see the Republicans having to work hard, and you’re going to see the Democrats having to sort out in a very difficult, I think, angry and cantankerous way, the future of their own party and the lessons they need to learn from this, from these results,
