We are now getting into month two of the Trump presidency, and Trump’s primary promise, I will get prices down and they will start coming down right away. Is Not Happening Now we’re going to talk about whether it’s because of Trump or despite Trump. But it cannot be ignored that Trump said egg prices would start coming down, and egg prices went up 15 and now are up 22% since Joe Biden left and Trump took over, eggs were 613, a dozen. Winter Trump became president, they are now 748, a dozen. This is an increase of 22% we can ignore that inflation was up in January, a 0.5% more than expected by Dow Jones, and it has now ticked up year over year, inflation to 3% so there’s two sides to this. You might be saying, you know, David, is is this criticism really fair in the sense that a lot of people on the left didn’t care about egg prices under Biden? Well, it’s important to remember that we never made egg prices the issue Trump and Republicans did. Were it not for Trump making it an issue and promising to get egg prices down, we wouldn’t be talking about it so it’s not Fader. Now go what you guys are now talking about eggs. Now you might say, Well, David, you couldn’t possibly expect Trump to lower egg prices or grocery prices so quickly could you he just became president. I go back to the source. I go back to Trump’s campaign, who said they will come down right away. I’ve got day one executive orders, and businesses are going to do things because they’re going to expect everything will be so awesome. Thanks to me. Right away prices will go down now, then you might say, Well, David, you can’t possibly blame Trump for higher egg prices right now, because bird flu is pushing them up. And I would say to you know, you know what? That’s absolutely the case. But it’s Trump who refuses to acknowledge that bird flu is a thing. It’s Trump who has consistently failed to simply say when there is a pandemic or epidemic, remember, COVID. Hey, this is a real thing, and we need to do something about this. No, Trump is just going forward and saying the prices are going to come down. Now, how do we know that deep down, Trump realizes his inflation promises are not likely to come to fruition, it’s that between November’s election and his inauguration, he started softening expectations on inflation. When asked about when will prices come down? Between November and January, Trump started saying things like, well, you know, Biden’s got the prices up so high, it may be hard to get them down. He started to say, in general, once prices go up, it’s hard to get them down. So Trump knows, and he knew those promises were nonsense. What do you want me to tell you when he’s the one that made the promise and he’s the one who’s failing? Now, if we are reasonable people, which I try to be, I try not to play political games with a lot of these macro economic things. For the last decade, I have insisted, no matter who is president, and no matter whether gas prices are up or down, presidents have very little to do with gas prices. It’s the global oil market. It’s things like a pandemic and global demand for gasoline. What can presidents do? Well, they can do a gas tax holiday. It’s very briefly going to bring down prices for a weekend or whatever. They can release some oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, but that would have an impact to 15 cents per gallon temporarily. I’ve been very upfront with my audience. Presidents don’t have much control over gas prices. We can’t now also be blamed for holding them accountable for that which they made a campaign issue Trump ran on the prices will come down right away. Now, there’s one other aspect to this that I think is absolutely critical to mention. If Trump succeeded at getting the prices down, it would probably signal that something was very wrong in the United States of America. What do I mean? If you start to see, you know, Trump had another promise, we’re going to have energy prices will be down 50% of course, that’s not going to happen. And by the way, if you look on any social media platform at what people are posting about their gas bills last month, their electrical bills last month, you know it’s not going to happen. But put that aside for a second. Aside for a second. If somehow energy prices came down 50% under Trump, it would be an economic disaster and a deflationary spiral, the likes of which this country is not seen since the Great Depression, because when prices are coming down so quick. Lee, if they did, it would be a sign of a complete and total collapse in demand. So two questions for you. Number one, do you expect that eventually gas prices, egg prices, grocery prices are going to come down in objective, raw terms, like we it was 613, a dozen when Trump took over. Will we see sub 613, dozen eggs during Trump’s presidency? But number two, do you believe Trump really believed he was going to get prices down on day one? Or do you think he knew he was lying? Let me know what you think i.
Trump knew his promise to lower egg prices was nonsense
By Straight Arrow News
In August 2024, then-candidate Donald Trump held a press conference surrounded by packaged foods, milk and eggs, proclaiming: “When I win, I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day One.” Now, as President, Trump faces a surge in egg prices, which jumped more than 15% last month due to the ongoing avian flu — the largest increase in the consumer price index (CPI) since June 2015.
Scientists say that Trump’s early actions in his first weeks helped the flu spread and caused egg prices to climb higher, yet Trump continues to blames his predecessor, Joe Biden, for the rising cost.
Watch the video above as Straight Arrow News contributor David Pakman cuts through the noise in the debate over who is responsible for the high cost of eggs. Pakman argues that if Trump hadn’t made it a key issue, promising to bring prices down, it wouldn’t be dominating the conversation.
