Now, about a decade ago, at a conference out west, I heard a state attorney general, a big, burly guy with a linebacker build and muscles bulging under his suit, talk openly about how he was known to cry in public, the tears only flowed. He explained when he was talking about one of three things, my family, my country, or my god. It wasn’t until many years later, that upon reflection, I realized what all those things have in common. They all made him look small by comparison, Tiny. Even that brings perspective. Accepting that perspective will make a guy humble. Sometimes it’ll even make him cry. Let’s focus on the second item on the crying list. Country, the proper proportion of a president to this country, the United States, is about one to 1 million. The best presidents, the best leaders, the best shepherds, all understand this. Fact, the United States is enormous. You are minuscule. The sooner you get that, the better off you’ll be. Donald Trump doesn’t understand this, not at all. Trump is all about Trump in the latest example of a Trump power grab, the President said recently that he is firing members of the Board of Trustees for the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and naming himself chairman. Trump also made clear that he would dictate programming for the Kennedy Center, specifically declaring that he would immediately cancel events that feature performers in drag. It’s hard to imagine a stunt that could be any more self indulgent, petty or pointless. Taking over the Kennedy Center is hardly a top priority for anyone except it seems Trump. Don’t believe the bumper stickers. This billionaire is not really out to make America great again. He’s out to use America to make himself more wealthy, more powerful and more relevant. The real estate developer tipped his hand on his end game recently when he talked about how the United States could relocate the Palestinians and put condos in Gaza built by whom Take a guess. Which is why, although he may do a few good things in office that a majority of Americans approve of. Trump will never be considered a great president. History will not remember him that way. So what if a couple of Trump sick offense in Congress are floating the wacky idea of carving the Mad King’s face into Mount Rushmore? I don’t think Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Washington have to worry much about welcoming a new neighbor onto the mountain anytime soon. The sad part is that, as I said, Trump has done a few things right in his short time in office the second time around, that list includes focusing the public’s attention on important issues like immigration and the foreign trade deficit we have with countries like China
banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports,
revoking the visas of students who protest against the United States or its allies, picking Marco Rubio to be Secretary of State and yes food safety advocate Robert F Kennedy Jr as Secretary of Health and Human Services, reaffirming support for Israel, complete with an invitation to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to join Trump at the White House, appearing to use tariffs effectively as a negotiating tactic against Canada, Mexico and Colombia, seeming To stand up to maganativists and isolationist in defense of H, 1b, visas for high skilled tech workers, unleashing Elon Musk to identify fraud, tackle graft and cut waste in government departments, and giving the media access and availability, taking hostile Questions from journalists, even some who don’t like him,
as they say in Texas, all that is already enough to say grace over and we can expect more good news to come. Still many of the good things that Trump does, well, they’ll get drowned out by the bad things he does often in the same news cycle. That’s what you get with Trump. You take the good with the bad and the crazy. Well, that’s just a bonus. You.
With President Trump, learn to take the good with the bad
By Straight Arrow News
President Donald Trump’s second term has already been defined by sharp polarization, with Democrats warning of a constitutional crisis and the destruction of vital federal programs even as Republicans celebrate progress on key initiatives like ending DEI nationwide. Amidst the division, those voters who find themselves agreeing with some of Trump’s actions while disagreeing with others can sometimes struggle to be heard in between the louder, more dominant voices of the Democratic and Republican camps.
Watch the above video as Straight Arrow News contributor Ruben Navarrette offers his review of what he says Donald Trump got right in his first few weeks as opposed to what he says he got wrong. In the end, Navarrette says, most Americans will have to “take the good with the bad” over the next four years.
