SCOTUS to hear arguments on gender-affirming care for minors

The U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments concerning the legality of gender-affirming care for minors, a practice that is currently banned in Tennessee and 25 other states. Tennessee’s law prohibits puberty blockers and gender-transition surgeries for children who identify as transgender.

The Tennessee ban was passed after investigative reporting by The Daily Wire revealed that Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) in Nashville was providing hormone therapy drugs to children as young as 13 and performing double mastectomies on teenage girls.

Dr. Shayne Taylor, who works at Vanderbilt’s Clinic for Transgender Health, said on camera that hormone therapies and surgeries for transgender individuals are a “money-making operation.”

“Some of our VUMC financial folks in August of, I’m sorry, October of 2016 started a couple of years ago, put down some costs of how much money we think each patient would bring in,” Dr. Taylor said in a video streamed to Facebook. “And this is only including top surgery, this isn’t including any bottom surgery, and it’s a lot of money. These surgeries make a lot of money. So, female-to-male chest reconstruction could bring in $40,000. A patient just on routine hormone treatment who you may only see a few times a year can bring in several thousands of dollars through a lot of visits and labs that actually makes money for the hospital.”

The plaintiffs in the case, including three transgender teens, their parents and the outgoing Biden administration, argue that the ban violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Critics of the ban maintain that the government should not decide whether a child receives medication or other treatments to assist a child who identifies as the opposite sex they were assigned at birth.

On the other side, proponents of the ban argue that puberty blockers and gender-transition surgeries are forms of “castration” and “mutilation” of children. They contend that it is the government’s responsibility to protect children from such procedures.

Tennessee Attorney General Thomas Skrmetti will argue that gender-transition procedures are life-altering, risky and unproven, emphasizing that it is the state’s duty to protect children.

In a court filing, Skrmetti pointed to several European countries that once pioneered gender transitioning for minors but have since reversed course, including Sweden, Finland, Norway and the United Kingdom.

The justices are scheduled to hear arguments on Wednesday, Dec. 4. A decision in the case is not expected until the spring of 2025.

THE US SUPREME COURT WILL HEAR ARGUMENTS ON GENDER-AFFIRMING CARE FOR MINORS WHICH IS BANNED IN TENNESSEE AND 25 OTHER STATES. TENNESSEE LAW BANS PUBERTY BLOCKERS AND SEX-CHANGE SURGERIES FOR CHILDREN WHO IDENTIFY AS TRANSGENDER.

TENNESSEE PASSED THE BAN AFTER THE DAILY WIRE’S INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING SHOWED VANDERBUILT UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER IN NASHVILLE WAS PROVIDING HORMONE THERAPY DRUGS TO KIDS AS YOUNG AS THIRTEEN AND PERFORMING DOUBLE MASTECTOMIES ON TEENAGE GIRLS.

SHAYNE TAYLOR AT VANDERBILT’S CLINIC FOR TRANSGENDER HEALTH ADMITTED ON CAMERA THE HORMONE THERAPIES AND SURGERIES FOR TRANS PEOPLE ARE A MONEY-MAKING OPERATION.

“SOME OF OUR VUMC FINANCIAL FOLKS IN AUGUST OF, I’M SORRY, OCTOBER OF 2016 STARTED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, PUT DOWN SOME COSTS OF HOW MUCH MONEY WE THINK EACH PATIENT WOULD BRING IN,” DR. TAYLOR SAID IN THE VIDEO STREAMED TO FACEBOOK. “AND THIS IS ONLY INCLUDING TOP SURGERY, THIS ISN’T INCLUDING ANY BOTTOM SURGERY, AND IT’S A LOT OF MONEY. THESE SURGERIES MAKE A LOT OF MONEY. SO, FEMALE TO MALE CHEST RECONSTRUCTION COULD BRING IN $40,000.

THE PLAINTIFFS IN THE CASE — THREE TRANS TEENS – ALONG WITH THEIR PARENTS AND THE OUTGOING BIDEN ADMINISTRATION ARGUE THE BAN VIOLATES THE EQUAL PROTECTION CLAUSE OF THE 14TH AMENDMENT UNDER THE CONSTITUTION.

CRITICS OF THE BAN SAY THE GOVERNMENT SHOULDN’T DECIDE IF A CHILD RECEIVES MEDICATION… OR OTHER TREATMENTS TO HELP A CHILD WHO IDENTIFIES AS THE OPPOSITE SEX THEY WERE ASSIGNED AT BIRTH.

ON THE OTHER SIDE, PROPONENTS OF THE BAN SAY PUBERTY BLOCKERS AND SEX CHANGE SURGERIES ARE CASTRATION AND MUTILATION OF A CHILD  — AND ARGUE IT’S THE GOVERNMENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM SUCH ABUSES.

TENNESSEE’S ATTORNEY GENERAL, THOMAS SKRMETTI WILL ARGUE THAT GENDER-TRANSITION PROCEDURES ARE LIFE ALTERING, RISKY AND UNPROVEN, EMPHASIZING IT’S THE STATE’S DUTY TO PROTECT CHILDREN.

IN A COURT FILING, SKRMETTI STATES SEVERAL EUROPEAN COUNTRIES THAT PIONEERED GENDER TRANSITIONING IN MINORS HAVE SINCE REVERSED COURSE… INCLUDING SWEDEN, FINLAND, NORWAY AND THE UNITED KINGDOM.

THE JUSTICES ARE SET TO HEAR ARGUMENTS WEDNESDAY.

A DECISION IN THE CASE IS NOT EXPECTED TO COME DOWN UNTIL THE SPRING OF 2025.

Thousands protest in Tbilisi as Georgia suspends EU membership talks

Police clashed with protesters in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on Thursday, Nov. 28, after the country’s ruling party announced it paused talks on joining the European Union (EU) until the end of 2028. Nearly 50 protesters were reportedly arrested, and three police officers were injured in the protests.

Police in riot gear reportedly fired a water cannon and launched teargas as protesters tried to force their way into parliament.

As thousands of pro-EU activists blocked the streets, the country’s outgoing pro-EU president accused the government of declaring “war” on its own people and questioned whether the police were loyal to Georgia or Russia.

The government’s decision came after the European Parliament rejected the results of Georgia’s parliamentary elections in October 2024 and passed a resolution calling for new elections under international supervision.

Many Georgians called the results of the elections fraudulent, and a global research and data firm declared the results “statistically impossible.”

Official results gave Georgia’s ruling party nearly 54% of the vote. The opposition party has refused to take their seats due to concerns over election integrity.

Georgia’s relationship with the EU has become tense recently. Brussels accused the Georgian government of taking pro-Russian stances, which Georgia’s ruling party denies.

Ruling party officials accused the EU of using accession talks to spur a “revolution in the country,” citing this as the reason Georgia has decided to end talks about EU membership until 2028. Polls show around 80% of Georgians want the country to join the EU.

Meanwhile, domestic and foreign critics accuse Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party of steering the country back towards Moscow with recently passed laws, including one requiring any non-commercial person or organization receiving more than 20% funding from a “foreign power” register as a foreign agent or face significant fines.

Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the so-called foreign agent’s law. The EU gave Georgia candidate status in 2023 but noted that a number of the country’s “Russian-inspired” laws passed, including the foreign agent’s legislation, were obstacles to membership.

Georgia gained independence from Russia in 1991 and has no formal diplomatic relationship with Moscow since a war with the country in 2008.

POLICE CLASHED WITH PROTESTERS IN THE GEORGIAN CAPITAL AFTER THE COUNTRY’S RULING PARTY ANNOUNCED IT IS HALTING TALKS ON JOINING THE EUROPEAN UNION UNTIL 2028.

NEARLY 50 PROTESTERS WERE REPORTEDLY ARRESTED AND THREE POLICE OFFICERS INJURED.

POLICE IN RIOT GEAR FIRED A WATER CANNON AND LAUNCHED TEARGAS AS PROTESTERS TRIED TO FORCE THEIR WAY INTO PARLIAMENT.

AS THOUSANDS OF PRO-E-U ACTIVISTS BLOCKED THE STREETS… THE COUNTRY’S OUTGOING PRO-E-U PRESIDENT ACCUSED THE GOVERNMENT OF “DECLARING WAR” ON ITS OWN PEOPLE AND QUESTIONED WHETHER THE POLICE WERE LOYAL TO GEORGIA OR RUSSIA.

THE GOVERNMENT’S DECISION CAME AFTER THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT REJECTED THE RESULTS OF GEORGIA’S PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION LAST MONTH… AND PASSED A RESOLUTION CALLING FOR NEW ELECTIONS UNDER INTERNATIONAL SUPERVISION.

MANY GEORGIANS CALLED THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTIONS FRAUDULENT AND A GLOBAL RESEARCH AND DATA FIRM DECLARED THE RESULTS “STATISTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.”

OFFICIAL RESULTS GAVE GEORGIA’S RULING PARTY NEARLY 54 PERCENT OF THE VOTE AND THE OPPOSITION PARTY REFUSED TO TAKE THEIR SEATS DUE TO CONCERNS OVER ELECTION INTEGRITY.

GEORGIA’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE E-U HAS BECOME TENSE AS BRUSSELS ACCUSES THE GOVERNMENT OF TAKING PRO-RUSSIAN STANCES, WHICH GEORGIA’S RULING PART DENIES.

RULING PARTY OFFICIALS ACCUSED THE E-U OF USING ACCESSION TALKS TO SPUR A “REVOLUTION IN THE COUNTRY”

CITING THIS AS THE REASON GEORGIA HAS DECIDED TO END TALKS ABOUT E-U MEMBERSHIP UNTIL 2028.

POLLS SHOW AROUND 80 PERCENT OF GEORGIANS WANT THE COUNTRY TO JOIN THE E-U.

CRITICS ACCUSE GEORGIA’S RULING PARTY OF STEERING THE COUNTRY BACK TOWARDS MOSCOW WITH RECENTLY PASSED LAWS.

Why Elon Musk and conservatives want to ‘delete’ CFPB

The forthcoming Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has a new target. Elon Musk is calling to “delete CFPB,” the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The agency has long been in conservatives’ crosshairs.

Musk’s X post came after tech billionaire Marc Andreessen blasted the agency on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

“It’s sort of Elizabeth Warren’s personal agency that she gets to control, and it’s an independent agency that just gets to run and do whatever it wants,” Andreessen said of CFPB, adding that its core function is to “terrorize financial institutions.”

Musk’s DOGE co-lead, Vivek Ramaswamy, doubled down in an X post of his own.

“CFPB started under Elizabeth Warren less than 20 years ago, and consumers are no better off for its existence. Quite the contrary, actually,” he wrote.

What is CFPB?

The CFPB was born out of the 2008 financial crisis. It’s the brainchild of then-future Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass. In 2010, Congress and then-President Barack Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Act, which created the bureau. It consolidated consumer financial protection authority from seven different agencies under one roof.

The bureau has had some blockbuster wins:

CFPB has an annual budget of less than $1 billion per year.

Targeting CFPB

When it comes to trimming $2 trillion off the books, CFPB is not the biggest whale for DOGE. But the agency has repeatedly raised the ire of conservatives and the banking industry.

The CFPB is an independent federal agency that gets its funding from the Federal Reserve Board. Critics have long argued that it’s too powerful, unaccountable and burdensome.

There have been many legal challenges to CFPB, including this year, when the Supreme Court rejected a conservative-led challenge to the bureau’s funding. Voting 7-2, the court overruled a Fifth Circuit decision that CFPB’s funding structure was unconstitutional because it bypassed Congress, violating the separation of powers. The case stemmed from a lawsuit by the payday lending industry.

Had the Supreme Court ruled the other way, it could have evaporated the CFPB and thrown into question every rule ever made by the agency.

The Supreme Court loss has not stopped conservatives from continuing to challenge the bureau. Project 2025 calls for CFPB to be abolished, saying in part, “…the agency has been assailed by critics as a shakedown mechanism to provide unaccountable funding to leftist nonprofits politically aligned with those who spearheaded its creation.”

Abolition aside, with Republicans set to control Congress and the White House next year, the GOP is looking at ways to dramatically change CFPB’s powers.

Meanwhile, with the changing of the guard coming soon, the CFPB under the Biden administration is reportedly racing to finalize rules before January 2025. That includes a ban on including medical debt on credit reports.

Simone Del Rosario: The forthcoming Department of Government Efficiency has a new target.

Elon Musk is calling to “delete CFPB,” the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which has long been in conservatives’ crosshairs.

The post came after tech billionaire Marc Andreessen blasted the agency on Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Marc Andreessen: We have this thing called the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau CFPB, which was the, it’s sort of Elizabeth Warren’s personal agency that she gets to control, and it’s an independent agency that just gets to run and do whatever it wants, right? And if you read the Constitution like there is no such thing as an independent agency. And yet, there it is.

Joe Rogan: What does her agency do?

Marc Andreessen: Whatever she wants.

Joe Rogan: What does it do, though?

Marc Andreessen: Basically, terrorize, terrorize financial institutions, prevent FinTech, prevent new competition, new startups that want to compete with the big banks.

Joe Rogan: Really?

Simone Del Rosario: Vivek Ramaswamy doubled down, saying, “CFPB started under Elizabeth Warren less than 20 years ago, and consumers are no better off for its existence. Quite the contrary, actually.”

Ok so how did CFPB get its start, and what’s happened since? Let’s go.

The CFPB was born out of the 2008 financial crisis. It’s the brainchild of then-future Sen. Elizabeth Warren. In 2010, Congress and then-President Barack Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Act, which created the bureau. It consolidated consumer financial protection authority from seven different agencies under one roof.

The bureau has had some blockbuster wins.

In 2022, it ordered Wells Fargo to pay $3.7 billion over charging illegal fees and interest on auto and mortgage loans, wrongfully repossessing customers’ cars, and more.

This year, it banned Navient from federal student loan servicing and ordered the company to pay $100 million to borrowers who were wrongly steered into forbearance or had payments miscounted.

In total, CFPB enforcement over the years has led to nearly $20 billion in consumer relief and $5 billion in fines.

CFPB has an annual budget of less than $1 billion per year. When it comes to trimming $2 trillion off the books, it’s not the biggest whale for DOGE. But it has been a big thorn.

See, the CFPB is an independent federal agency that gets its funding from the Federal Reserve Board. Critics have long argued that it’s too powerful, unaccountable, and burdensome.

We’ve seen many legal challenges to CFPB, including this year, when the Supreme Court rejected a conservative-led challenge to the bureau’s funding.

Project 2025 calls for CFPB to be abolished, saying, “…the agency has been assailed by critics as a shakedown mechanism to provide unaccountable funding to leftist nonprofits politically aligned with those who spearheaded its creation.”

Abolition aside, with Republicans set to control Congress and the White House next year, the GOP is looking at ways to dramatically change CFPB’s powers.

Meanwhile, with the changing of the guard coming soon, the CFPB under the Biden administration is reportedly racing to finalize rules in these final weeks. That includes a ban on including medical debt on credit reports

Fox News hosts, including former primetime anchor Tucker Carlson, raised questions about Epps’ role, airing video clips of him at the Capitol and suggesting his presence was suspicious. Carlson pointed out that Epps had not been charged with a crime as evidence he might be working with the government.

Epps, who was later charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, sued Fox News for defamation. However, a judge dismissed the case, ruling that the network’s statements were protected by the First Amendment.

Fox News defended its coverage, arguing that its hosts were offering opinions, not making factual assertions about Epps’ involvement. The network celebrated the ruling, noting two other recent defamation lawsuits against it were also dismissed. One was filed by Tony Bobulinski, a former associate of Hunter Biden, and another by disinformation expert Nina Jankowicz.

“Following the dismissals of the Jankowicz, Bobulinski, and now Epps cases, Fox News is pleased with these back-to-back decisions from federal courts preserving the press freedoms of the First Amendment,” Fox News said in a statement.

Fox News still faces a major defamation lawsuit from the voting technology company Smartmatic, which is set to go to trial next year.

China is putting out a warning that it plans to take action if the United States enforces new chip control measures. This comes after reports said the Biden administration could come out with new export procedures by the end of the week.

Reuters reported the U.S. Chamber of Commerce told its members the plan includes adding as many as 200 Chinese chip companies to a trade blacklist which would prevent most U.S. suppliers from shipping to them.

China’s Commerce Ministry spokesperson He Yadong said China strongly opposes what he claims is the U.S. broadening the concept of national security and the “abuse” of control measures targeting Chinese companies.

The U.S. tightened controls on semiconductors over fears that China could use the technology to strengthen its military.

“These actions severely disrupt international economic and trade order, destabilize global industry security and harm the cooperative efforts between China and the U.S.,” Yadong said.

It’s not clear what actions China would take, but Yadong said the country would do what it needed to protect the rights of Chinese companies.

The reported changes are a reversal after the Biden administration signed a bipartisan bill in 2022 providing incentives for chipmakers to set up manufacturing in the U.S., committing $53 billion to boost U.S. competitiveness with China.

The chips are an important component for several products including electronics, vehicles, medical devices and defense systems.

There are also concerns the revitalization of the semiconductor industry will be impacted when President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January 2025.

“That chip deal is so bad,” Trump said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in October. “We put billions of dollars for rich companies to come in and borrow the money and build chip companies here.”

Trump said he plans to put up to 60% tariffs on goods from China and a tax of at least 10% on all other imports.

CHINA IS PUTTING OUT A WARNING THAT IT PLANS TO TAKE ACTION IF THE U-S ENFORCES NEW CHIP CONTROL MEASURES.

THIS COMES AFTER REPORTS THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION COULD COME OUT WITH NEW EXPORT PROCEDURES BY THE END OF THE WEEK.

REUTERS REPORTS THE U-S CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TOLD ITS MEMBERS THE PLAN INCLUDES ADDING AS MANY AS 200 CHINESE CHIP COMPANIES TO A TRADE BLACKLIST WHICH WOULD PREVENT MOST U-S SUPPLIERS FROM SHIPPING TO THEM.

CHINA’S COMMERCE MINISTRY SPOKESPERSON HE YADONG SAYS CHINA STRONGLY OPPOSES WHAT HE CLAIMS IS THE U-S BROADENING THE CONCEPT OF NATIONAL SECURITY AND THE QUOTE “ABUSE” OF CONTROL MEASURES TARGETING CHINESE COMPANIES.

THE U-S TIGHTENED CONTROLS ON SEMICONDUCTORS OVER FEARS THAT CHINA COULD USE THE TECHNOLOGY TO STRENGTHEN ITS MILITARY WITH YADONG RESPONDING…

“THESE ACTIONS SEVERELY DISRUPT INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC AND TRADE ORDER, DESTABALISE GLOBAL INDUSTRY SECURITY AND HARM THE COOPERATIVE EFFORTS BETWEEN CHINA AND THE U-S.

IT’S NOT CLEAR WHAT ACTIONS CHINA WOULD TAKE BUT YADONG ADDED THE COUNTRY WOULD DO WHAT IT NEEDED TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF CHINESE COMPANIES.

VO:

THE REPORTED CHANGES ARE A REVERSAL FROM THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SIGNING A BIPARTISAN BILL IN 20-22 PROVIDING INCENTIVES FOR CHIPMAKERS TO SET UP MANUFACTURING IN THE U-S…– COMMITTING 53 BILLION DOLLARS TO BOOST U-S COMPETITIVENESS WITH CHINA.

THE CHIPS ARE AN IMPORTANT COMPONENT FOR SEVERAL PRODUCTS INCLUDING ELECTRONICS, VEHICLES, MEDICAL DEVICES AND DEFENSE SYSTEMS.

THERE ARE ALSO CONCERNS THE REVITALIZATION OF THE SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY WILL BE IMPACTED WHEN PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP TAKES OFFICE IN JANUARY.

HERE’S WHAT TRUMP HAD TO SAY ABOUT IT ON THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE PODCAST.

that chip deal is so bad, we put up billions of dollars for rich companies to come in and borrow the money and build chip companies here. And they’re not going to give us the good companies anyway. All you had to do is charge them tariffs. If you were to put a tariff on the chips coming in, you would have been able to. Just like the auto companies. No different. More sophisticated, but no different.

Trump cabinet picks, Connecticut lawmakers targeted in bomb threats

Former Rep. Lee Zeldin, tapped by Trump to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, said in a social media post that a pipe bomb threat targeting him and his family was sent with a pro-Palestinian-themed message. Zeldin added that he and his family were not at home at the time and were safe.

Pete Hegseth, a former Army National Guard officer and Fox News host selected by Trump for secretary of defense, posted on X Thanksgiving morning, saying a police officer arrived at his home, where his seven children were still sleeping. Hegseth said the officer notified him and his wife of a credible pipe bomb threat targeting their family.

The FBI launched an investigation into these threats, and a spokesperson said the agency is working with multiple law enforcement agencies across the country to track down those responsible.

While law enforcement investigates, a series of other incidents unfolded in Connecticut. Bomb threats were reported against several Democratic members of Congress on Thursday, Nov. 29. Reps. Joe Courtney, D-Conn., Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., Jim Himes, D-Conn., and John Larson, D-Conn., all reported bomb threats at their homes in Connecticut.

Himes said in a statement that police found no evidence of a bomb during their search of his home.

Hayes released a statement saying that police had been notified of a threat involving a pipe bomb in her mailbox, but no bomb was found.

“There is no place in our country for political violence,” she added.

Local and federal authorities continue to investigate these incidents. As of now, the FBI has not confirmed whether the threats targeting Trump’s Cabinet nominees are connected to those aimed at the Connecticut lawmakers.

CDC says abortions decreased in 2022, but research reveals the opposite

Listen

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its first major report on abortion since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Researchers found the number of abortions dropped 2% in 2022, making it not much different from the years before. Preliminary data shows abortions actually went up in 2023.

The CDC found U.S. providers performed more than 613,000 abortions in 2022, only slightly down from the nearly 626,000 abortions performed in 2021. But in 2023, more than a million abortions were recorded in the U.S., according to a new report from the Guttmacher Institute. It’s the highest number the research and policy organization has recorded in a decade.

There are some caveats to this data. The CDC’s report offers an incomplete look at abortion in the United States because not every state reports abortion data to the CDC. The Guttmacher Institute does include all 50 states in its report.

Overall, though, reports show the vast majority of abortions took place before nine weeks of pregnancy.

Research also shows that expanded access to the abortion pill has played a big role in these numbers. A pandemic-era change made by the Food and Drug Administration allowed for the pills to be dispensed via telemedicine. In the wake of the ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, eight states passed laws protecting providers from being sued for prescribing abortion pills virtually to people from other states.

Despite the overall national picture, however, both the CDC and the Guttmacher Institute found abortion rates dramatically declined in states that enacted near-total bans after Roe v. Wade was overturned. Meanwhile, states that have become known as “abortion havens” have seen numbers rise significantly.

RESEARCHERS FOUND THE NUMBER OF ABORTIONS DROPPED TWO PERCENT THAT YEAR – MAKING IT NOT MUCH DIFFERENT FROM THE YEARS BEFORE.

WHAT’S MORE IS PRELIMINARY DATA SHOWS ABORTIONS ACTUALLY WENT **UP** LAST YEAR.

THE C-D-C FOUND U-S PROVIDERS PERFORMED MORE THAN 613-THOUSAND ABORTIONS IN 2022…

ONLY SLIGHTLY DOWN FROM THE NEARLY 626-THOUSAND ABORTIONS PERFORMED IN 2021.

BUT IN 20-23 – MORE THAN A MILLION ABORTIONS WERE RECORDED IN THE U-S, ACCORDING TO A NEW REPORT FROM THE GUTTMACHER INSTITUTE.

THAT’S THE HIGHEST NUMBER THE RESEARCH AND POLICY ORGANIZATION HAS RECORDED IN A DECADE.

HOWEVER – THERE ARE SOME CAVEATS TO THIS DATA.

THE C-D-C’S REPORT OFFERS AN INCOMPLETE LOOK AT ABORTION IN THE UNITED STATES… BECAUSE NOT EVERY STATE REPORTS ABORTION DATA TO THE C-D-C.

THE GUTTMACHER INSTITUTE DOES INCLUDE ALL 50 STATES IN ITS REPORT.

OVERALL, THOUGH, REPORTS SHOW THE VAST MAJORITY OF ABORTIONS TOOK PLACE BEFORE NINE WEEKS OF PREGNANCY.

RESEARCH ALSO SHOWS EXPANDED ACCESS TO THE ABORTION PILL HAS PLAYED A BIG ROLE IN THESE NUMBERS.

A PANDEMIC-ERA CHANGE MADE BY THE F-D-A ALLOWED FOR THE PILLS TO BE DISPENSED VIA TELEMEDICINE.

AND IN THE WAKE OF THE RULING OVERTURNING ROE VERSUS WADE… EIGHT STATES PASSED LAWS PROTECTING PROVIDERS FROM BEING SUED FOR PRESCRIBING ABORTION PILLS VIRTUALLY TO PEOPLE FROM **OTHER** STATES.

DESPITE THE OVERALL NATIONAL PICTURE, HOWEVER, BOTH THE C-D-C AND THE GUTTMACHER INSTITUTE FOUND ABORTIONS RATES DRAMATICALLY DECLINED IN STATES THAT ENACTED NEAR TOTAL BANS AFTER ROE VERSUS WADE WAS OVERTURNED – BUT STATES THAT HAVE BECOME KNOWN AS “ABORTION HAVENS” HAVE SEEN NUMBERS RISE SIGNIFICANTLY.

Iran plans to expand its uranium-enriching centrifuges at its enrichment plants, according to the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Reuters reported that Iran informed the IAEA it intends to install more than 6,000 additional uranium-enriching centrifuges, as outlined in a new confidential report.

The move comes in response to a resolution passed last week by the IAEA’s 35-nation Board of Governors, which condemned Tehran for failing to cooperate with the agency earlier this month.

The IAEA said that the increased enrichment capacity would allow Iran to enrich uranium more quickly, raising concerns that Tehran could be pursuing the development of a nuclear bomb.

Western powers on the board have expressed concerns, arguing that there is no reason for Iran to enrich uranium to 60% purity, close to the 90% threshold required to produce weapons-grade material.

In a statement to the Associated Press, the U.S. State Department expressed its “deep concern” over Iran’s decision.

“Iran’s continued production and accumulation of uranium enriched up to 60% has no credible civilian justification,” the statement said.

The department went on to accuse the country of “choosing the path of continued escalation as opposed to cooperation with the IAEA.”

In recent months, Iran’s leadership signaled a readiness to negotiate with the West. Earlier this week, President Joe Biden helped broker a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iranian-backed Hezbollah in the ongoing conflict.

However, it remains unclear how President-elect Donald Trump will approach diplomatic relations with Iran once he returns to the White House.

IRAN PLANS TO EXPAND ITS URANIUM-ENRICHING CENTRIFUGES AT ITS ENRICHMENT PLANTS, ACCORDING TO THE UNITED NATION’S NUCLEAR WATCHDOG, INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY.

REUTERS REPORTS IRAN TOLD THE WATCHDOG IT PLANS TO INSTALL MORE THAN 6,000 EXTRA URANIUM-ENRICHING CENTRIFUGES, ACCORDING TO A NEW CONFIDENTIAL REPORT.

THE MOVE IS IN RESPONSE TO A RESOLUTION PASSED LAST WEEK LEVIED AGAINST IRAN BY THE IAEA’S 35-NATION BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

THE BOARD CONDEMNED TEHRAN EARLIER THIS MONTH FOR NOT COOPERATING WITH THE AGENCY.

THE IAEA SAYS MORE ENRICHMENT CAPACITY WILL ALLOW IRAN TO ENRICH URANIUM FASTER, RAISING CONCERNS OF TEHRAN POSSIBLY BUILDING A BOMB.

WESTERN POWERS ON THE BOARD SAY THERE’S NO REASON FOR TEHRAN TO ENRICH URANIUM TO 60% PURITY, CLOSE TO THE 90% NEEDED FOR A BOMB TO BE CONSTRUCTED.

THE U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT SAID IN A STATEMENT TO THE ASSOCIATED PRESS IT WAS “DEEPLY CONCERNED WITH IRAN’S ANNOUNCEMENT THAT IT IS CHOOSING THE PATH OF CONTINUED ESCALATION AS OPPOSED TO COOPERATION WITH THE IAEA,” ADDING “IRAN’S CONTINUED PRODUCTION AND ACCUMULATION OF URANIUM ENRICHED UP TO 60% HAS NO CREDIBLE CIVILIAN JUSTIFICATION.”

IN RECENT MONTHS, IRAN’S LEADERS INDICATED A READINESS TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE WEST. EARLIER THIS WEEK, PRESIDENT BIDEN HELPED SECURE A CEASEFIRE DEAL BETWEEN ISRAEL AND IRANIAN-BACKED PROXY GROUP HEZBOLLAH IN ITS ONGOING TURMOIL.

HOWEVER, RIGHT NOW, IT’S UNCLEAR HOW PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP WILL DIPLOMATICALLY DEAL WITH IRAN ONCE HE’S BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Walmart will also begin offering online deals on Sunday, Dec. 1. Electronics, such as a 32-inch smart TV, will be available for under $100. Laptop computers will go for less than $150.

Some analysts are urging shoppers to consider the effect President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs might have on popular gift items. Trump has threatened to hit China with a 60% levy, plus Mexico and Canada with a possible 25% tariff.

Chip Lupo, from Wallethub, told Newsweek that electronics, appliances, cars and furniture would be specifically vulnerable to price increases because of their reliance on imported parts and materials. He named smartphones, laptops, tablets and gaming consoles as items that would see price hikes.

In 2023, Americans spent roughly $12.5 billion on Cyber Monday. That number is expected to hit close to the $14 billion mark this year, according to marketing experts.

For MSNBC, the ratings drop has been especially pronounced for its top anchor, Rachel Maddow. Since Nov. 5, Maddow’s show has experienced a 41% decrease in total viewers, with a 50% drop in the key 25-54 demographic.

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” has also taken a hit, losing 37% of its audience since the election.

Internally, the network faces uncertainty. Last week, parent company Comcast announced plans to spin off MSNBC and other cable channels next year.

The announcement has raised concerns about potential layoffs and restructuring, with some employees expressing worry about the future of the network.

Despite these challenges, some within MSNBC told the New York Post the viewership drop is temporary and may recover in the new year after the inauguration.

While it’s common for news networks to lose viewers after major events like elections, Fox News has seen a surge in popularity, with viewership increasing 32% since election night. The network remains the dominant cable news provider, especially after President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.

On election night, Fox led with 10 million primetime viewers, followed by MSNBC with 6 million and CNN with 5.1 million. Fox’s viewership has continued to rise, reaching 3.2 million, an 86% increase from last year.
