SEVERAL SUBURBS AROUND DENVER ARE CONSIDERING FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE CITY OVER ITS SO-CALLED SANCTUARY POLICIES AIMED AT HELPING MIGRANTS.
MOST RECENTLY … THE “CASTLE ROCK” TOWN COUNCIL VOTED UNANIMOUSLY TO HAVE THE CITY’S ATTORNEY LOOK INTO LEGAL OPTIONS.
OFFICIALS IN DENVER SAY THEY’VE SERVED SERVED MORE THAN 40-THOUSAND PEOPLE FROM THE SOUTHERN BORDER SINCE DECEMBER 20-22.
THE ARRIVALS ARE DECLINING, WITH FEWER THAN 160 MIGRANTS ARRIVING IN AUGUST.
CASTLE ROCK TOWN COUNCIL MEMBER MAX BROOKS TOLD “C-B-S COLORADO” … THAT DENVER HAS HAD ISSUES HOUSING THE MIGRANTS … AND THEY’RE SPILLING OVER INTO NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES.
“This isn’t about labeling or saying the migrants need to be deported.. It’s not about that… it’s about stopping and making sure we’re not bringing in anymore when obviously denver can’t handle what’s already there.”
OFFICIALS IN THE CITIES OF PARKER AND AURORA ARE EXPLORING SIMILAR LAWSUITS.
LAST MONTH … AURORA’S MAYOR SAID VENEZUELAN GANGS HAD TAKEN OVER SOME APARTMENT BUILDINGS IN THE CITY … AFTER VIDEO OF ARMED GANG MEMBERS WENT VIRAL … CAUSING WIDESPREAD CONCERN.
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN AURORA … SAID THEY WERE ALL ISOLATED INCIDENTS IN A “SMALL CORNER OF THE CITY.”
IN ADDITION TO THE CITIES CONSIDERING LEGAL ACTION … SEVERAL COLORADO COUNTIES FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST THE STATE AND GOVERNOR JARED POLIS EARLIER THIS YEAR … CHALLENGING TWO STATE LAWS THAT STOP LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FROM WORKING WITH FEDERAL IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES.
COUNCIL MEMBER BROOKS SAYS THE NEXT STEP FOR CASTLE ROCK IS TO GET OTHER INTERESTED TOWNS AND COUNTIES TOGETHER TO DISCUSS THE POSSIBLE LEGAL PROCEEDINGS.
THE CITY OF DENVER HAS NOT COMMENTED ON THE POTENTIAL LAWSUIT.
