KAMALA HARRIS IS CHANGING HER TUNE WHEN IT COMES TO FRACKING.
[Kamala Harris]
“As vice president I did not ban fracking. As president I will not ban fracking.”
[Jack Alymer]
HOWEVER, DURING HER 20-20 WHITE HOUSE BID, THE NOW DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE SHARED A VERY DIFFERENT VIEW ON THE ISSUE.
“There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking.”
[Jack Alymer]
FRACKING IS A DRILLING TECHNIQUE USED TO EXTRACT OIL AND NATURAL GAS FROM DEEP ROCK FORMATIONS.
AND IT’S UTILIZED IN A HUGE AMOUNT OF OUR NATION’S PRODUCTION OF THOSE RESOURCES.
IN THE U.S., 90 PERCENT OF NEW ONSHORE OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENTS AND 60 PERCENT OF NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION RELIES ON FRACKING.
BUT, THIS PROCESS IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR A THIRD OF THE COUNTRY’S TOTAL METHANE EMISSIONS.
HARRIS CO-SPONSORED THE 20-19 GREEN NEW DEAL-
WHICH PROPOSED A TIMELINE FOR EMISSIONS CUTS IN THE ENERGY SECTOR SO RAPID, FRACKING WOULD’VE LIKELY HAD TO BE BANNED TO MEET THOSE GOALS.
BUT NOW HARRIS IS BACKING AWAY FROM THAT POLICY PUSH-
WHILE INSISTING SHE IS STILL SERIOUS ABOUT TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE.
[Kamala Harris]
“Let’s be clear, my values have not changed. I believe it is very important that we take seriously what we must do to guard against what is a clear crisis in terms of the climate.”
“From my experience as Vice President, we can do it without banning fracking.”
[Jack Alymer]
ULTIMATELY, AN OUTRIGHT BAN ON FRACKING PROBABLY ISN’T IN THE CARDS EVEN IF HARRIS WANTED IT.
DOING SO WOULD REQUIRE AN ACT OF CONGRESS THAT WON’T COME ANYTIME SOON.
DESPITE THE VICE PRESIDENT’S GREEN RHETORIC, THE BIDEN-HARRIS ADMINISTRATION ACTUALLY SAW THE U.S. OIL AND GAS SECTOR HIT RECORD HEIGHTS.
BECOMING THE WORLD’S LARGEST EXPORTER OF LIQUEFIED NATURAL GAS AND WIDENING THE NATION’S LEAD AS THE GLOBAL LEADER IN OIL PRODUCTION DURING THEIR TIME IN OFFICE.
