AS THE WAR IN THE MIDDLE EAST REACHED THE SIX-MONTH MARK ON SUNDAY — THE ISRAELI MILITARY ANNOUNCED IT WAS WITHDRAWING MORE GROUND TROOPS FROM SOUTHERN GAZA – LEAVING JUST ONE BRIGADE.
ISRAEL HAS BEEN GRADUALLY REDUCING ITS TROOPS IN GAZA SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.
THE ISRAELI DEFENSE MINISTER SAYS THE TROOPS WOULD BE PREPARING FOR FUTURE OPERATIONS.
ISRAEL AND HAMAS HAVE CONFIRMED THEY WERE SENDING DELEGATIONS TO CAIRO AS NEGOTIATORS FROM THE UNITED STATES, QATAR AND EGYPT WERE MEETING TO SETTLE ON A PLAN THAT WOULD SEE A TEMPORARY CEASE-FIRE AND THE RELEASE OF ALL THE HOSTAGES TAKEN BY HAMAS ON OCTOBER 7TH.
HAMAS HAS SAID IN THE PAST THEY WOULD AGREE TO A DEAL ONLY IF IT MEANT ENDING THE WAR. ISRAEL HAS SAID AFTER ANY SHORT-TERM TRUCE, IT WOULD CONTINUE ITS MISSION TO ELIMINATE HAMAS.
