THE NBA IS GETTING BACK TO BUSINESS MONDAY NIGHT IN LOS ANGELES BUT THERE ARE STILL LINGERING CONCERNS ABOUT THE WILDFIRES IN THE CITY AND SURROUNDING AREAS. SEVERAL PLAYERS COACHES AND STAFF MEMBERS HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY IMPACTED.
THE LAKERS WILL HOST THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS MONDAY NIGHT AT CRYTPO.COM ARENA DOWNTOWN AFTER HAVING TWO GAMES POSTPONED LATE LAST WEEK.
ON SUNDAY AFTER PRACTICE, HEAD COACH JJ REDICK WAS VERY EMOTIONAL AS HE DESCRIBED GOING BACK TO HIS PACIFIC PALISADES HOME AND SEEING THE NEIGHBORHOOD WHICH LOST MORE THAN 5000 STRUCTURES TO THE FIRES OVER A 24 HOUR PERIOD.
“ I was not prepared for what I saw, it’s complete devastation and destruction. I had to go a different way to the house and went through the village and it’s all gone. And I dont think you can ever prepare yourself for something like that.
BUT REDICK DOES WANT TO COACH MONDAY, IF FOR NOTHING ELSE THAN TO FOCUS ON SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE TRAGEDY FOR A FEW HOURS.
“ we obviously want to give people hope and we wanna give people, i dont want to say a distraction but maybe an escape. We talked about it before practice, it’s our responsibility, everyone in this building to lead on this.”
THE CLIPPERS HAD ONE GAME POSTPONED OVER THE WEEKEND AND WILL PLAY THE CHARLOTTE HORNETS MONDAY IN THEIR NEW ARENA IN INGLEWOOD. BUT THEIR THOUGHTS ARE NOT 100% ON THE GAME.
“people are still barely getting sleep, some guys lost power, some guys got family stuff to figure out, some guys’ kids schools burned down. So it’s bigger than basketball right now, way bigger than basketball.”
THE NBA IS STILL WORKING THROUGH HOW TO MAKE UP THE GAMES THAT WERE POSTPONED. THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE ALSO WILL WORK ON MAKING UP AN LA KINGS GAME THAT WAS POSTPONED LAST WEEK.
BUT FOR THE MOMENT, IT’S BACK TO BUSINESS AS USUAL.
