{“The water is not safe to drink and I would even say it’s not safe to brush your teeth with. Because we are not seeing adequate chlorination and an inability to consistently disinfect the water.”}
A stern warning from health officials in jackson — mississippi.
The state’s governor — declaring a state of emergency after excessive rainfall exacerbated issues at one of jackson’s water-treatment plants.
We showed you some of the flooding that hit the state last week.
That flooding continued in jackson on monday.
Jackson has two water treatment plants.
The larger one is near a reservoir that provides most of the city’s water.
Flooding at the plant has caused low water pressure — raising concerns about firefighting — as well as people’s ability to take showers or flush toilets.
This is not jackson’s first water-related issue.
Cold snaps in each of the past two years have left some residents without running water.
The city is also under a boil water notice..
For those who may have running water.

{“This is a very different situation from a boil water notice, which is also a serious situation that citizens of jackson have become tragically numb to. Until it is fixed, it means we do not have reliable running water.”}
Today — the mississippi emergency management agency will start distributing clean water to residents.
The national guard will also be called into help.
