OFFSHORE WIND DEVELOPERS ARE STRUGGLING TO AFFORD THE PROJECTS THEY’RE ALREADY COMMITTED TO.
BUT THOSE WITH CONTRACTS IN NEW YORK ARE GETTING A CHANCE TO RESUBMIT THEIR OFFERS AT HIGHER PRICES.
NEW YORK STATE IS OPENING UP A NEW OFFSHORE WIND SOLICITATION–OR, AUCTION–ON NOVEMBER 30TH.
IN A STATEMENT, GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL SAID: “FOR NEW YORK TO CONTINUE TO BE A CLIMATE LEADER, WE MUST BE PROACTIVE IN ADDRESSING THE NEAR-TERM CHALLENGES AFFECTING THE CLEAN ENERGY INDUSTRY.”
THE STATE’S CLIMATE ACT GOALS INCLUDE SOURCING 70% OF ITS ELECTRICITY FROM RENEWABLES BY 2030 AND PRODUCING 9,000 MEGAWATTS OF OFFSHORE WIND POWER BY 2035.
GOVERNOR HOCHUL’S PLAN ALLOWS FOR STRUGGLING PROJECTS SEEKING FINANCIAL RELIEF TO PARTICIPATE ALONGSIDE NEW CONTENDERS.
THIS EXPEDITED SOLICITATION IS PART OF GOVERNOR HOCHUL’S COMPREHENSIVE 10-POINT ACTION PLAN, UNVEILED LAST MONTH, AIMED AT FORTIFYING NEW YORK’S RENEWABLES INDUSTRY AMID FINANCIAL CHALLENGES.
IT’S BEEN A TUMULTUOUS FEW MONTHS IN THIS INDUSTRY.
