New polling reveals Americans are concerned about the Republican MAGA movement but also feel President Biden’s rhetoric on the subject is divisive and incites conflict. President Biden has been hitting the campaign trail over the last week and has focused his message on MAGA Republicans, with more trips planned in the near future.

“Trump and the MAGA Republicans made their choice. We can choose to build a better America or we can continue down this sliding path of oblivion to where we don’t want to go,” President Biden told Democrats in Pittsburgh on Labor Day.

A new Reuters/Ipsos poll found 58% of Americans believe the Make America Great Again movement is threatening America’s democratic foundations, including one in four Republicans. But 60% of Republicans don’t think Trump and MAGA represent a majority of the party, according to the poll.

The poll was conducted after President Biden’s speech from Independence Hall in Philadelphia, and it found many Americans thought Biden’s speech went too far.

“MAGA Republicans do not respect the constitution, they do not believe in the rule of law,” the president said during a speech in Pennsylvania.

The Reuters poll found that 59% of respondents believe Biden’s speech will further divide the country. That aligns very closely with a Trafalgar Group poll that found nearly 57% of Americans, including 62% of independents, believe it was an escalation in rhetoric and designed to incite conflict. The Trafalgar poll also found 35% think Biden’s speech was acceptable campaign messaging.
