
Russia reeling from overnight drone attack on military depot

Russia is still assessing the damage from an overnight drone attack on Wednesday, Sept. 18, that targeted a large military depot. The site is northwest of Moscow and hundreds of miles away from the Ukrainian border.

The country’s security service and special operations forces targeted a Russian Defense Ministry warehouse storing missiles, guided bombs and artillery.
The strike started a massive fire. It forced a partial evacuation of locals living nearby.
The blast was so large that NASA satellites picked up the intense heat from the area. Earthquake monitoring stations also picked up what sensors thought was a small earthquake.
Ukraine ramped up its domestic drone production over the past two years, enabling more sophisticated attacks on Russian soil. Meanwhile, the U.S. and its allies are still considering whether to allow Ukraine to use NATO-supplied weapons to strike targets on Russian soil.
