VTuber Ironmouse breaks Kai Cenat’s subscription record on Twitch

In the world of streaming, nothing is ever truly certain, but at least for now, there’s a new most popular face of Twitch.tv. VTuber Ironmouse has set the record for the highest number of Twitch subscribers on the platform, surpassing the previous record holder, Kai Cenat.

Ironmouse is part of a growing trend of creators who, instead of showing their real faces, opt to use animated avatars.

Ironmouse’s bubbly, pink-haired persona is a hit with fans, and her content ranges from gaming, to singing, collaborations with other content creators and talking to her audience under the “just chatting” category.

She’s part of a VTuber company called VShojo, which says it is “on a mission to empower unique individuals.”

As of Tuesday, Oct. 1, the VTuber has more than 320,000 active subscribers, which is nearly 14,000 more than Cenat’s previous record. For those unfamiliar, Twitch subscribers differ from regular “followers” because they pay for the otherwise free content. Options for subscription include a one-time fee for a month of subscription, or recurring monthly payments.

There are of course other ways to financially support these content creators, such as through “bits,” a kind of paid currency, and through direct donations. Having an active Amazon Prime subscription also allows users one free subscription per month to the creator of their choice.

Ironmouse has been on a 30 day streaming marathon, known as a “sub-a-thon” to achieve this milestone. But it’s not just about breaking records. Ironmouse has pledged to donate half of her subscription earnings to the Immune Deficiency Foundation, a cause close to her heart.

As a streamer who’s been open about her battle with common variable immunodeficiency, a condition that has left her bedridden at times, she’s used her platform to raise both money and awareness.

Kai Cenat is already teasing a comeback to the VTuber breaking his record, congratulating his new rival but promising fans he will be back to reclaim the top spot.
