MEXICO HAS ELECTED A NEW PRESIDENT.

CLAUDIA SHEINBAUM.

SHE COMES FROM THE SAME POLITICAL PARTY AS HER PREDECESSOR –

PRESIDENT ANDRES MANUEL LOPEZ OBRADOR.

WHICH MEANS HER POLITICAL IDEOLOGY AND POLICIES WILL CLOSELY MIRROR WHAT’S ALREADY IN PLACE.

HERE’S WHAT MEXICO’S NEWLY ELECTED PRESIDENT HAS SAID ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL REGARDING HER POSITION ON IMMIGRATION AND THE U.S. MEXICO BORDER. 

MIGRANTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD ARE COMING TO THE U.S. BY PASSING THROUGH MEXICO.

SHEINBAUM SAYS SLOWING THE INFLUX OF IMMIGRATION –

STARTS WITH INVESTING IN THE COUNTRIES PEOPLE ARE LEAVING.

BY HELPING THE ECONOMIES OF POOR COUNTRIES –

SHEINBAUM SAYS THEIR PEOPLE WON’T HAVE TO FLEE BASED ON NECESSITY.

SHEINBAUM SAYS IN ORDER TO DO THAT –

THE U.S. NEEDS TO DO MORE.

SUGGESTING THE U.S. COULD USE SOME OF ITS MILITARY FUNDS —

TO FUND THE COUNTRIES MIGRANTS ARE FLEEING.

HERE SHE IS IN A RECENT INTERVIEW BEING ASKED HOW SHE WOULD REDUCE ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

“So, to the extent that there is development in Central America, and in other countries that unfortunately many people to leave for economic reason to the united states, the long term vision is that there should be investment  and support in those areas. so , if a part of what is destined to war investment in the U.S. were destined to investment for peace, we would be talking about a natural decrease in migration.”

SHEINBAUM ALSO SAYS THE U.S. NEEDS IMMIGRATION TO HELP WITH ITS LABOR SHORTAGE.

SHE SAYS SHE OPPOSES THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BORDER WALL –

SAYING IT WOULD NOT LEAD TO A BETTER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.

BUT SAYS WHETHER IT BE BIDEN OR TRUMP WHO WINS IN 2024 –

EITHER OPTION WOULD BE GOOD FOR MEXICO.

“I think it will be good, whether President Biden or President Trump wins. We have very strong economic integration with the United States. We are now the principal trading partner and that requires us to have a good relationship.”
