UKRAINE SAYS RUSSIA USED CRUISE MISSILES TO STRIKE A CIVILIAN GRAIN SHIP IN THE BLACK SEA, NEAR ROMANIA. UKRAINE’S FOREIGN MINISTER CALLED IT “A BRAZEN ATTACK ON FREEDOM OF NAVIGATION AND GLOBAL FOOD SECURITY,”
IT’S THE FIRST TIME A MISSILE HIT A CIVILIAN VESSEL TRANSPORTING GRAIN AT SEA SINCE THE START OF RUSSIA’S INVASION OF UKRAINE.
SOME SHIPS WERE DAMAGED WHILE MOORED.
UKRAINE’S PRESIDENT VOLODYMYR ZELENSKYY SAID THE VESSEL CARRYING UKRAINIAN GRAIN TO EGYPT WAS STRUCK JUST AFTER IT LEFT THE COUNTRY’S TERRITORIAL WATER.
THE SHIP SUSTAINED HEAVY DAMAGE TO ITS PORT SIDE, INCLUDING A CARGO HOLD AND CRANE.
THERE ARE NO REPORTED DEATHS OR INJURIES.
BUT TRADERS SAY THE INCIDENT IS LEADING TO CONCERN OVER A DWINDLING SUPPLY OF WHEAT IN THE BLACK SEA EXPORT ZONE AND RESULTED IN HIGHER GRAIN PRICES.
THE ATTACK COMES AS NATO ALLIES INCLUDING THE U-S, ARE CONSIDERING ALLOWING KYIV TO LAUNCH DEEPER STRIKES INTO RUSSIA USING DONATED WEAPONS.
PRESIDENT BIDEN IS MEETING WITH BRITISH PRIME MINISTER KEIR STARMER WHERE THE TWO ARE EXPECTED TO TALK ABOUT LIFTING WEAPONS RESTRICTIONS.
PUTIN SAID ON RUSSIA STATE MEDIA IF THE WEST GIVE’S KYIV THE GREENLIGHT –MOSCOW WILL CONSIDER ITSELF AT WAR WITH NATO AND RESPOND.
THE U-S RECENTLY ACCUSED IRAN OF SUPPLYING BALLISTIC MISSILES TO RUSSIA– CLAIMS THAT APPEARED TO BE BACKED-UP BY SATELLITE IMAGERY
