21% of independents less likely to back Trump: Poll

A new poll from Politico and Ipsos shows that 21% of voters registered as independents are less likely to support former President Donald Trump because he is now a convicted felon. Those voters said the conviction will play a crucial factor in their voting decisions in November. The race is tightly contested, and independent and swing voters will be crucial demographics to watch in the upcoming election.

In May 2024, a New York jury convicted Trump of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. He is the first president to be tried and convicted of any crime.
