Gallup: Economic Optimism Hits 7-Year High

A new Gallup poll that surveyed roughly 1,000 adults by phone over the first two weeks of January finds that 53% of Americans expected the economy to grow over the next six months, the highest since it started asking the question annually in 2019. The economic outlook exceeds that of President Donald Trump’s first time in office.
Meanwhile, 52% of respondents think inflation will rise over the coming months, compared to 33% who expect it to drop. 41% think interest rates will fall, compared to 35%. One point of contention was the job market, as 38% reportedly expect to see a rise in unemployment, equal to those who think the rate will decline.
The answers largely fell along party lines –– whereas only 21% of Democrats think the economy will improve in the coming months, 78% of Republicans hold the same view.
