John Kelly rejects Trump’s comments that civilian award is ‘much better’ than Medal of Honor: ‘Not even close’

John Kelly, former President Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff, said that Donald Trump’s assertion that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is “much better” than the Medal of Honor is false, and that the two awards are “not even close.”

Kelly is a retired Marine corp general. He explained that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is given for achievements, but the Medal of Honor is given for bravery, often posthumously.

According to Trump, the Medal of Freedom is superior. The former president said that recipients of the Medal of Honor “are either in very bad shape or they’re dead.”
