Michigan GOP lawmaker says gay marriage should be ‘illegal again’

Michigan state Rep. Josh Schriver, R, stated he wants to “Make gay marriage illegal again.” Democratic Attorney General Dana Nessel questioned how dissolving same-sex marriages benefits constituents.
Fellow state Rep. Jason Morgan, D, criticized Schriver’s views as controversial, extreme and anti-family. Schriver’s comments came on the social media platform X, after Republicans won control of the Michigan House of Representatives on Nov. 5. When asked why Schriver wanted to make gay marriage illegal again, the Republican quoted a passage of the Bible to The Detroit News.
