Voting machine company Smartmatic alleged that Newsmax has destroyed evidence in the company’s lawsuit against the right-wing news channel over false claims that Smartmatic helped “rig” the 2020 election. Lawyers for Smartmatic accused Newsmax of destroying evidence, including texts and emails, related to false voting fraud claims made by Trump and his allies.
The lawsuit alleges the outlet destroyed documents that were “direct evidence of actual malice.” Smartmatic is requesting legal fees be paid by Newsmax for obtaining the concealed messages.
