Trump removes director of government ethics office

President Donald Trump has removed David Huitema from his position as director of the Office of Government Ethics, as confirmed by the agency’s statement. Huitema was appointed by former President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate in November 2024.

The Office of Government Ethics, now led by acting Director Shelley Finlayson, oversees ethics rules and financial disclosures for government officials. Huitema was supposed to serve a five-year term.

This removal follows Trump’s recent firings of inspectors general from various government agencies without explanation.
