Unemployment rate ticks up to 5.5% in July as job creation lags population growth

Canada unexpectedly lost 6,400 jobs in July, Statistics Canada reported on Aug. 4. The unemployment rate rose to 5.5 per cent, increasing 0.1 percentage points and marking its third-straight monthly increase.
