I have to say, part of me is surprised that it’s taken this long for Republicans to try to impeach Biden. I mean, the delay is obviously because the President has not committed impeachable offenses. And if you throw down 100 Biden I will raise you a Don Jr. The Republicans essentially need to come up with feasible grounds for impeachment and the fact that they haven’t yet been able to swing it just goes to show how unimpeachable sorry Biden’s character is, but here’s the thing that the push for impeachment has ramped up in recent weeks with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. You know that go on who the guy who forgot his spine somewhere in Mar Lago when he visited Trump after this assault on the Capitol. Recently, he told Sean Hannity that the House probe into the Biden family dealings was, quote, rising to the level of Impeachment Inquiry.
Just days ago, Speaker McCarthy appeared on Fox News to say that impeachment would be, quote, a natural step forward. So why is McCarthy all of a sudden relatively gung ho about impeaching Biden when mere months ago he was de escalating Lauren bellbirds efforts to do just that? The answer, I believe, is twofold. First, certain far right, Republicans in the House members of the House Freedom Caucus specifically, are threatening a government shutdown if their demands aren’t met. Now, these demands are extreme. They’re wide ranging and they are difficult to parse yet alone meet as they cover everything from so called woke Pentagon policies pulling funding from Ukraine and what they view as the weaponization of the Justice Department. The House Freedom Caucus, notably also has the power to oust McCarthy from his position. And this has led to McCarthy’s renewed effort to communicate his support for Biden’s impeachment. As McCarthy said, quote, if we shut down all the government shuts down investigation and everything else.
The other reason I think McCarthy is leaning further towards impeachment is that it provides a fantastic distraction from Trump’s legal woes. More than a distraction even it’s, it’s a delusion. It’s a way to pull focus from the fact that we are for the very first time witnessing a former president get booked into jail mugshot and all over the house to impeach Biden it might suggest to voters that, hey, impeachment is just part and parcel of being President, a political weapon used to make Biden seem equally corrupt to Trump.
Obviously, even if the house were to bring and then pass Articles of Impeachment a conviction would never make it through the democratically controlled Senate. But all of this only serves to highlight how deeply ineffective Kevin McCarthy is as a house speaker. He can’t even rein in the members of his own party to keep them from destroying the institutions he’s sworn to protect.

Republicans have explored a number of ways to impeach President Biden. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s newfound support for impeachment, however, represents a significant new shift in U.S. politics.
Straight Arrow News contributor Jordan Reid argues that McCarthy’s flip comes from the need to distract American attention away from the criminal cases against former President Donald Trump. She adds that McCarthy’s goal is not actually to impeach President Biden but to create the perception among voters that Biden and Trump are equally corrupt.
