American writer Mark Twain was reportedly fond of saying, History doesn’t repeat itself, but often rhymes. Well, Politics does, in fact, repeat itself. And where things get really interesting is when one political party picks up the script that was used by its opposition. The economy is shaky. That’s why the newly formed Democratic ticket of Harris waltz made up of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is mum about the cost of groceries and would rather just have a good laugh about how weird Republicans are. In fact, there’s a lot of laughing going on on the Democratic side of the aisle. I guess they haven’t seen the polls. For her part, Harris is a happy camper from way back. Sometimes she laughs at her opponents. Other times, what tickles her Funny Bone is just the sound of her own voice. So of course, when the time came for her to pick a running mate, Harris settled on a happy warrior with a whiff of quote, Minnesota, nice. The 60 year old Waltz is a former high school teacher and football coach who was swamped by a brigade of appreciative elementary school kids eager to hug him when he signed into law in 2023
the free school meals for kids program that ensures that every kid in Minnesota has access to a free breakfast and a free lunch regardless of income. Man, talk about money well spent getting happy just thinking about it, and maybe a little hungry. Which brings us to the part where politics repeats. You see, part of adding walls to the Democrat ticket has been a campaign to hypnotize voters and convince them that things aren’t really as bad as the Republicans suggest with all their doom and gloom. I can remember back when Republicans used to be optimistic with a message that was bright and positive. See President Ronald Reagan, who saw America as a shining city on a hill today with former President Donald Trump at the helm of the GOP pirate ship, pessimism is the order of the day. The message is dark and depressing, whether Republicans are looking back over the last three and a half years or ahead, if Harris is elected, all they see is disaster and gloom, to which Democrats offer as a counter the suggestion that we should all be just wait for it joyful. Yeah, that’s right. Democrats are making Joy sexy again. They’re bringing back the joy they want Americans to feel good about America by finding the joy in life.
Ever since waltz joined the ticket, the Democratic message, aided and abetted by their surrogates in the media, has been that Harris and waltz are bringing the joy back to America. Happy times are here again.
That’s the part that sounds familiar. Go back with me to 1988 Republicans were then pushing the candidacy of Vice President George H W Bush and his running mate, Senator Dan quill of Indiana, but they had to contend with critics of the Reagan years who wanted to change parties. The Republicans seized upon a catchy new song that appeared on the radio written by Bobby McFerrin. It was titled, don’t worry, be happy. It went like this. Here’s a little song I wrote. You might want to sing it note for note. Don’t worry. Be happy. In every life, we have some trouble, but when you worry, you make it double. Don’t worry, be happy. Personally, I always thought that the be happy strategy employed by Republicans in 1988 was silly. It was also offensive because it insulted those Americans who were actually struggling with real problems in a country that was battling real challenges. It’s the same thing now that Democrats are stuck on joy. If Harrison waltz, really believe that America can be better. They’re going to have to do better than simply telling everyone to smile and laugh. How about giving us something to feel good about?
Harris-Walz must do more than bring ‘joy’ to the Democratic ticket
By Straight Arrow News
At the Democratic National Convention, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz accepted his party’s nomination for vice president, addressing a packed arena. “We’re all here tonight for one beautiful, simple reason: We love this country,” Walz declared to thousands of delegates. Some voters view this wave of positivity as a counter to the darker, fear-driven messaging from former President Donald Trump’s campaign.
Watch the video above as Straight Arrow News contributor Ruben Navarrette delves into the history of the “politics of joy” since the Reagan era and expresses concern over the emphasis the Harris-Walz ticket is placing on it.
