House Speaker Mike Johnson is the worst of the Republican Party

Republicans finally got themselves a speaker of the house and it is an absolute Magga extremists named Mike Johnson, who represents the worst of the worst of the worst of the Republican Party. And of Magha. We’re going to go through it a number of different components to this. First and foremost, there has been this question is Magga still in control of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives? We knew we know that Magga voters are still in control of the Republican primary. Because when you look at Republican primary polling, Trump has about 60% of the entire Republican primary vote. All of the other candidates are dividing up the remaining 40% of primary voting. So we know that as far as voters are concerned, Maga is still in control. In the Senate, there is a much stronger non Maga Republican movement. So then the question is the House of Representatives. First and foremost, the removal of McCarthy was a Magga movement, but it was only eight Republicans who joined Democrats to remove Kevin McCarthy, certainly a sign that there is Magga in the house. But then the question became art became are they going to be able to coalesce around anybody to make them speaker? And if so, will it be a maga or a non Magga person? They went through a number of different potential nominees, Steve Scalise, Jim Jordan and others and ultimately, they came to Mike Johnson, Mike Johnson is I hate to use the term because it’s so silly. He really is like an ultra Magga sort of guy. There are it’s a very long list of things. You know, Mike Johnson wrote in favor of criminalizing gay sex in the past. He said that January 6 was illegitimate protests. He said that Donald Trump won the 2020 election who actually participated in trying to figure out ways to stop Joe Biden from becoming president of the United States and try to overturn the results. He’s called Social Security a Ponzi scheme, he said COVID vaccines are a hoax. I’m sorry. COVID itself is a hoax. And the vaccines are dangerous that women have abortions after birth, and all these crazy different things. So this is a hardcore Magga guy. And the situation in which we now find ourselves is that the House of Representatives, either by design, or because they’ve been dragged kicking and screaming into it, Republicans in the House of Representatives have ultimately coalesced around an extreme Magga candidate Maga still has control in the House of Representatives. Now, you could say, a bunch of the Republicans who ultimately voted for Johnson don’t like Johnson, they’re not Magga extremists, but they realized it’s been more than three weeks without a speaker. If we don’t get someone elected, the risk that a Democratic member of the House becomes speaker goes up with Democrats continuing to be united behind Hakeem Jeffries, a good guy who I’ve interviewed on the program, and it would be eminently competent in that role. So certainly some of the Republicans who ultimately came around and voted for Johnson did it, because they realize the risk of not doing it. But at the end of the day, if you zoom out, Trump, the leader of this entire Magga movement, civilly liable rapist based on one trial, under multiple civil trials, for criminal trials, humiliating himself all the time showing classified and secret documents to people storing them around his toilet at Mar a Lago. It’s so insane. And that guy is still in control of this entire movement. And the movement is mostly still in control of the Republican Party. So that points our eyes to 2024. What is going to happen with this movement in 2024, because since Donald Trump won in 2016, he wasn’t good for the party in 2018. We know that in 2020, he straight up just last and Democrat ended up in the White House in 2022. The red wave that wasn’t ended up with Democrats gaining seats in the Senate and losing the House of Representatives by a small margin. Trump and Magga have not been particularly good for Republicans. They’ve been great for Trump. Trump got four years in the Oval Office, although now his alleged criminality is coming back to haunt him. But what happens in 2024, and this is where as I speak to my audience, what I am getting to is that we all need to make damn sure that we are voting. If we aren’t voting, then it is the Maga people that we interview on the street and that call into the show and that support people like Mike Johnson, who is now Speaker of the House, they get to decide, I don’t want them to decide. And there’s a there’s a right that we all have as American citizens to be the ones who decide which is we get to vote as well. And so the one message is we can’t control how popular Magga is within the Republican Party. We can’t control who Republicans in the House make speaker of the house. It’s all totally beyond our control. What we can control is that every single one of us make sure we’re registered to vote, and that we do vote just about a year from now.
