Washington's chaos raises profound questions for the nation: Parker

The turmoil in Washington, D.C. continues as a bipartisan Senate compromise on southern border security recently fell apart, effectively snuffing out any prospects for immigration legislation in Congress. And while the Senate approved a $95 billion military aid package for Ukraine, that bill will face challenges in Speaker Mike Johnson’s House.

Straight Arrow News contributor Star Parker is concerned about the legislative chaos in Washington, D.C. and raises key questions that all Americans should contemplate in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.

Well, Washington, D.C. is abuzz right now. The Senate is on its way out, but not without causing another stir, passing a bill with Ukraine, with Israel, with pan-Pacific, with a little bit of money even for [the] Gaza humanitarian effort. What’s missing this time? The border. Well, because the border bill crashed, the one that they worked for months on that included border because the House said that a bill without the border was a non-starter, they put it in there, and the next thing you know, you get into the details where everybody knows the devil is and the bill crashed.

So now we’re looking at the House, taking up a bill that does not include doing anything on the border, 60-something billion for Ukraine, 14 or so billion for Israel, both at war, depending on the United States. So I think that one of the questions on the table for all of us here as we try to sort through what exactly is our role as taxpayers, looking at what’s going on in our communities now with so many migrants that are from all over the world that are illegally in our country, creating situations of crime that we saw up in New York — people are very, very fearful because we don’t know who’s who. You don’t know who that migrant is and how desperate they are, because now they’re all throughout our country, more than 8 million, many of them pregnant, so we’ll be having American children. These are big questions on the table.

And yet we’re not looking at anytime soon having some comprehensive immigration reform simply because the Senate bill fell apart, the House said it was a non-starter, and now the House is attempting to pass Israel by itself. We’re looking at what’s coming out of the Senate. It’s just a mess. It’s an absolute mess here in Washington.

It’s an absolute mess here in Washington, while some are even watching the clock because the shutdowns on the table again, they have to pass some some omnibus bills or or now they’re getting their details to say that won’t be on me that’s just going to be smaller under this new car limitation that they set on themselves. What does that mean, for all of us? It means patients for sure. It means elections have consequences and matter as we move and finish up the primary season going into the general election. But it also means that we personally have to sort through Who are we what is it that we really want for our country? Are we a country of laws and morals and and self government that we don’t need a big nanny state here in Washington make each and every decision for our lives? Or are we going to keep this party going on up here in Washington DC to where the congressional leaders are fighting amongst themselves? Because we the people sent them here? Maybe it starts at home? What is it that we want? Do we want a nanny state? Or do we want freedom? Those are the fundamental questions. At core. There are some better elected officials that understand this dynamic. There are others that don’t so election time. So let’s think about all these things as we move through another round of headlines telling us that the bill either passed or failed with a president that says I’m not sure where I am, what I’m doing or what I’m going to sign into law.
