The report stated the U.S. accounted for 64% of imports to European NATO nations from 2020 through 2024. That’s up from 52% between 2015 and 2019, according to the report.
What’s spurring the growth?
The SIPRI data shows the American arms industry is benefitting from rising European defense spending, spurred on by Russia’s war against Ukraine.
European allies bulked up on U.S.-supplied Patriot Air Defense Missile Systems, HIMARS launchers and F-35s in recent years as a result of that war.
Why are there concerns?
However, many of those same allies are now wary of the U.S. after the Trump administration’s move to halt deliveries of U.S. weapons, spare parts and intelligence Kyiv. Many European leaders are questioning whether the U.S. could do the same to them.
Analysts and lawmakers said this may impact Europe’s desire for American weaponry.
What are European leaders saying?
France’s President Emmanuel Macron is calling on Europe to bolster its own defenses instead of relying on the United States.
France now reportedly ranks as the globe’s second-largest weapons exporter. Countries like Germany, the United Kingdom and Denmark are increasing military spending. South Korea is also a burgeoning arms exporter and many analysts Straight Arrow News Anchor Ryan Robertson spoke with tell him Europe could turn to Seoul to as a result.

Why will U.S. exports to Europe likely continue?
Despite the concerns, analysts said Europe will likely keep buying some weapons from the U.S. because no one else makes anything like them, like F-35s and Patriot or THAAD systems for land-based defense against ballistic missiles.
[RYAN ROBERTSON]
THE U-S IS STILL THE WORLD’S LARGEST ARMS TRADER, INCREASING ITS DOMINANCE YEAR OVER YEAR. BUT THAT TITLE MIGHT BE IN JEOPARDY IF EUROPE DECIDES TO FIND ANOTHER DEALER.
LET’S GET TO THE NUMBERS.
THE U-S EXPORTED 43 PERCENT OF GLOBAL WEAPONS FROM 2020 TO 2024, UP FROM 35 PERCENT OVER THE PREVIOUS PERIOD ENDING IN 2019.
THAT’S ACCORDING TO A NEW REPORT FROM THE STOCKHOLM INTERNATIONAL PEACE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OR SIPRI (SIP-REE).
THE U-S ACCOUNTED FOR 64 PERCENT OF IMPORTS TO EUROPEAN NATO NATIONS FROM 2020 THROUGH 2024, UP FROM 52 PERCENT BETWEEN 2015 AND 2019.
THE SIPRI DATA SHOWS THE AMERICAN ARMS INDUSTRY IS BENEFITING FROM RISING EUROPEAN DEFENSE SPENDING–SPURRED ON BY RUSSIA’S WAR AGAINST UKRAINE
EUROPEAN ALLIES BULKED UP ON U-S SUPPLIED PATRIOT AIR DEFENSE MISSILE SYSTEMS, HIMARS LAUNCHERS AND F-35’S IN RECENT YEARS AS A RESULT.
BUT MANY OF THOSE SAME ALLIES ARE NOW WARY OF THE U-S, AFTER THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S MOVE TO HALT DELIVERIES OF U-S WEAPONS, SPARE PARTS AND INTELLIGENCE TO KYIV. MANY EUROPEAN LEADERS ARE QUESTIONING WHETHER THE U-S COULD DO THE SAME TO THEM.
ANALYSTS AND LAWMAKERS SAY THIS MAY IMPACT EUROPE’S DESIRE FOR AMERICAN WEAPONRY.
FRANCE’S PRESIDENT EMMANUEL MACRON IS CALLING ON EUROPE TO BOLSTER ITS OWN DEFENSES INSTEAD OF RELYING ON THE U-S..
FRANCE NOW RANKS AS THE GLOBE’S SECOND-LARGEST WEAPONS EXPORTER AND COUNTRIES LIKE GERMANY, THE U-K AND DENMARK ARE INCREASING MILITARY SPENDING. SOUTH KOREA IS ALSO A BURGEONING ARMS EXPORTERS, AND MANY ANALYSTS I SPEAK WITH TELL ME EUROPE COULD TURN TO SEOUL TO SOOTHE ITS APPETITE FOR MORE WEAPONRY.
BUT IT’S NOT HAPPENING QUITE YET. AND DESPITE THE CONCERNS, ANALYSTS SAY EUROPE WILL LIKELY KEEP BUYING SOME WEAPONS FROM THE U-S BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE MAKES ANYTHING LIKE THEM–THINK F-35S AND PATRIOT OR THAAD SYSTEMS FOR LAND-BASED DEFENSE AGAINST BALLISTIC MISSILES.

What have US farmers said?
Some American farmers said they’re worried escalating trade tensions could make it harder to sell products abroad.
Beijing said goods already shipped before Monday and imported by April 12 would not be subject to the new tariffs.
Crops such as soybeans, wheat and corn generally travel by sea, meaning that China’s customs officials will collect some tariffs until the shipments arrive in China after departing from the U.S. on Monday or later.

What has Canada’s incoming prime minister said?
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s newly chosen successor, Mark Carney, said he supports Canada’s retaliation against the U.S.
Trump said tariffs on some Canadian and Mexican goods scheduled for April 2 “could go up.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said duties on steel and aluminum imports are set to start Wednesday, March 12.
He acknowledged some prices might rise in the U.S., but Trump said any pain would be short-term.

AMERICAN FARMERS ARE FACING NEW RETALIATORY TARIFFS ON MANY PRODUCTS THEY SEND TO CHINA.
THE MEASURES, BEGINNING MONDAY, INCLUDE AN EXTRA 15 PERCENT DUTY ON CHICKEN, WHEAT, CORN AND COTTON — AS WELL AS 10 PERCENT ON ITEMS INCLUDING BEEF AND SOYBEANS.
THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCED THE TARIFFS LAST WEEK, SHORTLY AFTER PRESIDENT TRUMP RAISED TARIFFS ON CHINESE PRODUCTS FOR THE SECOND TIME SINCE HE TOOK OFFICE IN JANUARY.
TRUMP INDICATED TARIFFS ARE NEEDED ON IMPORTS FROM CHINA TO ALLOW THE U-S TO REBUILD ITS INDUSTRIAL SECTOR AND GENERATE TAX REVENUE FOR THE FEDERAL BUDGET.
SOME AMERICAN FARMERS SAY THEY’RE WORRIED ESCALATING TRADE TENSIONS COULD MAKE IT HARDER TO SELL THEIR PRODUCTS ABROAD.
BEIJING SAYS THAT GOODS THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN SHIPPED BEFORE MONDAY AND IMPORTED BY APRIL 12 WOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO THE NEW TARIFFS.
BECAUSE CROPS LIKE SOYBEANS, WHEAT AND CORN TYPICALLY TRAVEL BY SEA, WHICH MEANS THAT CHINA’S CUSTOMS OFFICIALS WILL ACTUALLY COLLECT FEW TARIFFS UNTIL SHIPMENTS ARRIVE IN CHINA AFTER LEAVING THE U-S ON MONDAY OR LATER.
MEANWHILE, CANADIAN PRIME MINISTER JUSTIN TRUDEAU’S NEWLY CHOSEN SUCCESSOR, MARK CARNEY IS STANDING BY CANADA’S RETALIATION AGAINST THE U-S.

Guillot said in a statement that following temporary flight restrictions “procedures is essential to ensure flight safety, national security, and the security of the president. The procedures are not optional and the excessive number of recent TFR violations indicates many civil aviators are not reading Notice to Airmen or NOTAMS, before each flight as required by the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration).”

Justice Amy Coney Barrett criticized by Republicans after ruling against Trump
Published UpdatedBy Kalé Carey (Anchor), Jodie Hawkins (Senior Producer)
- Justice Amy Coney Barrett was the only one of the three justices appointed by President Donald Trump to vote against an emergency request to freeze foreign aid. She joined the court’s three Democratic appointees and Chief Justice John Roberts to form a bare majority.
- Republican Jack Posobiec called Barrett, “a warning against the dangers of Republican DEI.”
- Barrett replaced Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat after she died in office in 2020.
Full Story
President Donald Trump appointed Justice Amy Coney Barrett to America’s highest court in 2020. Since her confirmation, Barrett voted on major rulings, including striking down abortion rights. Now, Trump supporters are criticizing Barrett after she recently voted against some of the president’s initiatives.
During the week of March 3, Barrett and Chief Justice John Roberts sided with the court’s three Democratic justices in backing an order that the Trump administration must pay foreign aid organizations for work they already did for the government.
What are Republicans saying about Barrett?
Barrett seemed to face the most backlash from the right, including Mike Davis, head of the Article III Project, a Conservative legal group who said Trump chose Barrett because he wanted a woman to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat after she died in office.
“I would say that she’s weak, and that she’s scared of her shadow,” Davis said Thursday, March 6. “I’ve also said she rattled law professors with her head up her a–.”
Jack Posobiec, a senior editor at Human Events, a conservative political news site, agrees with Davis and said Barrett, who previously taught at Notre Dame Law School, wasn’t chosen to be Justice for the right reasons.
“Amy Coney Barrett is a warning against the dangers of Republican DEI,” Posobiec said. “You need to be a little more discerning when it comes to judicial nominees.”
Posebiec also mentioned Barrett’s vote in January rejecting Trump’s request to block the sentencing in his New York hush money criminal case and her dissent in the 2024 decision by the courts to narrow an obstruction charge used to prosecute rioters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Amy Kremer, a Conservative activist who helped organize the pro-Trump rally the day before the riot, posted to X, “the biggest disappointment on the court” about Barrett, adding “as a woman, I’m ashamed I ever supported her.”

— Amy Kremer (@AmyKremer) March 5, 2025
Longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon suggested on his podcast, Barrett is not a fan of Trump, considering the look she gave him at his address Tuesday, March to a joint session of Congress.
“That’s about as close to a stink eye as you can get,” Bannon said.
Another Justice nominee criticized by the GOP
This isn’t the first time Republicans have been disappointed by their party’s president when it comes to nominees to the high court.
Justice David H. Souter, a nominee of President George H.W. Bush, was criticized by Conservatives for becoming one of the court’s most liberal members.
Justice Roberts was also criticized for his Obamacare vote and his vote to block efforts to put a citizenship question on the 2020 census during Trump’s first term.
[Kalé Carey]
PRESIDENT TRUMP APPOINTED JUSTICE AMY CONEY BARRETT TO AMERICA’S HIGHEST COURT IN 20-20. SINCE HER CONFIRMATION SHE’S VOTED ON MAJOR RULINGS INCLUDING STRIKING DOWN ABORTION RIGHTS.
BUT NOW, TRUMP SUPPORTERS ARE CRITICIZING BARRETT AFTER SHE RECENTLY VOTED *AGAINST* SOME OF THE PRESIDENT’S INITIATIVES.
THIS WEEK, BARRETT AND CHIEF JUSTICE JOHN ROBERTS SIDED WITH THE COURT’S THREE DEMOCRATIC JUSTICES IN BACKING AN ORDER THAT THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION MUST PAY FOREIGN AID ORGANIZATIONS FOR WORK THEY ALREADY DID FOR THE GOVERNMENT.
BARRETT SEEMED TO FACE THE MOST BACKLASH FROM THE RIGHT, INCLUDING MIKE DAVIS, HEAD OF THE “ARTICLE THREE” PROJECT, A CONSERVATIVE LEGAL GROUP WHO SAID TRUMP CHOSE BARRETT BECAUSE HE WANTED A WOMAN TO FILL JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG’S SEAT AFTER SHE DIED IN OFFICE.
i would say that she’s weak, and that she’s scared of her shadow but incremental might be a nicer way to put. ive also said she’s rattled law professor with her head up her a–, that’s what i said when i’ve been upset.
JACK POSOBIEC (poh-SOH-bee-ehk), A SENIOR EDITOR AT HUMAN EVENTS, A CONSERVATIVE POLITICAL NEWS SITE, AGREES WITH DAVIS SAYING BARRETT, WHO PREVIOUSLY TAUGHT AT NOTRE DAME LAW SCHOOL, WASN’T CHOSEN BE JUSTICE FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.
“Amy Coney Barrett is a warning against the dangers of republican DEI .. when we say someone who’s a conservative and she’s with us on this one issue, she’s a woman and it’s an election year.. Let’s get all behind .. it kind of goes to show you .. you need to be a little more discerning when it comes to judicial nominees.”
POSEBIEC ALSO MENTIONED BARRETT’S VOTE IN JANUARY REJECTING TRUMP’S REQUEST TO BLOCK THE SENTENCING IN HIS NEW YORK HUSH MONEY CRIMINAL CASE AND HER DISSENT IN LAST YEAR’S DECISION BY THE COURTS TO NARROW AN OBSTRUCTION CHARGE USED TO PROSECUTE RIOTERS WHO STORMED THE CAPITOL ON JANUARY 6TH, 2021.
AMY KREMER, A CONSERVATIVE ACTIVIST WHO HELPED ORGANIZE THE PRO-TRUMP RALLY THE DAY BEFORE THE RIOT, POSTED TO X SAYING “THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT ON THE COURT” ABOUT BARRETT, ADDING “AS A WOMAN, I’M ASHAMED I EVER SUPPORTED HER.”
AND LONGTIME TRUMP ALLY STEVE BANNON SUGGESTED ON HIS PODCAST … BARRETT IS NOT A FAN OF TRUMP, CONSIDERING THE LOOK SHE GAVE HIM AT HIS ADDRESS TUESDAY TO A JOINT SESSION OF CONGRESS.
That’s about as close to stink eye as you can get .. that’s not happy .. ive had a couple of my ex wives look at me like that.
THIS ISN’T THE FIRST TIME REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED BY THEIR PARTY’S PRESIDENT WHEN IT COMES TO NOMINEES TO THE HIGH COURT.
JUSTICE DAVID H SOUTER, A NOMINEE OF PRESIDENT GEORGE H-W BUSH WAS CRITICIZED BY CONSERVATIVES WITH HIS OBAMACARE VOTE AND DURING TRUMP’S FIRST TERM, WHEN HE VOTED TO BLOCK EFFORTS TO PUT A CITIZENSHIP QUESTION ON THE 20-20 CENSUS.

How do scammers pull off fraud operations?
Officials said scammers often impersonate Social Security representatives through calls, text messages, emails, fake websites and direct messages on social media.
Criminals often claim there is a problem with a person’s Social Security number or benefits. Scammers will often use spoofed caller IDs to appear authentic and send fake documents to pressure victims into handing over money or personal information.
The agency said fraudsters have even created fake social media pages, claiming to be associated with the SSA to lure victims. They will often use other tactics, including providing fake badge numbers and use fraudulent Social Security letterheads.
What is the Social Security Administration advising?
Social Security Administration officials reminded Americans, they will never demand immediate payment, threaten arrest, ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone, or request wire transfers of funds or cryptocurrency.
How much money have Americans lost?
Officials said the number of scam attempts has reportedly fallen in recent years. However, Americans still lost more than $10 billion in 2023, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Who are the most likely victims?
According to the SSA, older Americans are much more likely to be victims of fraud. Those between the ages of 70 and 84 lose an average of $11,902 to scams as opposed to those under the age of 29, losing an average of $2,346 to criminals.

THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION IS WARNING AMERICANS TO BE AWARE OF THIEVES TRYING TO STEAL THEIR MONEY BY OBTAINING SENSITIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION.
THE AGENCY IS RAISING CONCERNS AS PART OF ITS NATIONAL CONSUMER PROTECTION WEEK.
OFFICIALS SAY SCAMMERS OFTEN IMPERSONATE SOCIAL SECURITY REPS THROUGH CALLS, TEXT MESSAGES, EMAILS, FAKE WEBSITES AND D-M’S ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
CRIMINALS WILL OFTEN CLAIM THERE’S A PROBLEM WITH A PERSON’S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR BENEFITS– USING SPOOFED CALLER I-D’S TO APPEAR OFFICIAL AND SENDING FAKE DOCUMENTS TO PRESSURE VICTIMS INTO HANDING OVER MONEY OR PERSONAL INFO.
THE AGENCY SAYS FRAUDSTERS HAVE EVEN CREATED FAKE SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES CLAIMING TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE S-S-A TO LURE VICTIMS AS WELL AS OTHER TACTICS INCLUDING PROVIDING FAKE “BADGE NUMBERS” AND USING FRAUDULENT SOCIAL SECURITY LETTERHEADS.
SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION OFFICIALS REMIND AMERICANS, THEY WILL NEVER DEMAND IMMEDIATE PAYMENT, THREATEN ARREST, ASK FOR CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD NUMBERS OVER THE PHONE, OR REQUEST WIRE TRANSFERS OF FUNDS OR CRYPTOCURRENCY.
WHILE THE NUMBER OF SCAM ATTEMPTS HAVE FALLEN IN RECENT YEARS, VICTIMS STILL LOST MORE THAN 10 BILLION DOLLARS IN 2023, ACCORDING TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION.
ACCORDING TO THE S-S-A, OLDER AMERICANS ARE MUCH MORE LIKELY TO BE VICTIMS OF FRAUD WITH THOSE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 70 TO 84 LOSING AN AVERAGE OF NEARLY 12-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO SCAMS, OPPOSED TO THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 29 LOSING NEARLY 24-HUNDRED DOLLARS ON AVERAGE TO CRIMINALS.
THE ACTING COMMISSIONER OF THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION URGES PEOPLE TO HANG UP AND IGNORE MESSAGES FROM FRAUDSTERS AND REPORT SCAMS TO THE AGENCY.

Politico reported Trump said Musk is empowered to make recommendations to the departments but not issue decisions on his own regarding staffing and policy.
Instead, there will now be biweekly sessions for Cabinet members to discuss more precise cuts in their departments with Musk.
What did Trump say about the change?
Trump posted to Truth Social that his Cabinet agreed on the need to reduce the size of the government.
“It’s very important that we cut levels down to where they should be, but it’s also important to keep the best and most productive people,” Trump said in the post.
Trump also talked about the meeting with reporters in the Oval Office.
“It was about cutting because everybody knows the country’s way out of control in terms of the number of people,” Trump said. “I want the Cabinet members to keep good people. I don’t want to see a big cut where a lot of good people are cut.”
How have Musk’s decisions impacted federal agencies?
Trump’s statements follow weeks of coverage of Musk’s planned overhaul of the federal workforce, which has been widely criticized by Democrats.
His orders have already altered the future of several agencies, including the Social Security Administration, which is now closing dozens of offices nationwide.
According to multiple reports, Musk joined the conversation at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting, agreeing with Trump’s directive. He also acknowledged that DOGE will make mistakes “but correct them very quickly.”

What’s next?
DOGE continues to face legal scrutiny with several lawsuits as judges express frustration that the Trump administration has sent mixed signals over who is really in charge of the government overhaul effort.
[Karah]
PRESIDENT TRUMP IS RESHAPING ELON MUSK’S ROLE WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY, BY PUTTING THE CABINET IN CHARGE OF FEDERAL FIRINGS FOLLOWING COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE WORLD’S RICHEST MAN’S APPROACH TO COST-CUTTING.
TRUMP MADE THE ANNOUNCEMENT IN A MEETING WITH MUSK AND HIS DEPARTMENT HEADS THURSDAY … SAYING IT WAS TIME FOR QUOTE “THE SCALPEL RATHER THAN THE HATCHET” … WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING JOB CUTS.
POLITICO REPORTS TRUMP SAID MUSK IS EMPOWERED TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE DEPARTMENTS BUT NOT ISSUE DECISIONS ON HIS OWN REGARDING STAFFING AND POLICY.
INSTEAD, THERE WILL NOW BE BIWEEKLY SESSIONS FOR CABINET MEMBERS TO DISCUSS THE CUTS IN THEIR DEPARTMENTS WITH MUSK AS HE WORKS TO MAKE THE DECISIONS PRECISE.
TRUMP POSTED TO TRUTH SOCIAL HIS GROUP WAS IN AGREEMENT ON THE NECESSITY OF REDUCING THE SIZE OF THE GOVERNMENT SAYING …
“IT’S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE CUT LEVELS DOWN TO WHERE THEY SHOULD BE, BUT IT’S ALSO IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE BEST AND MOST PRODUCTIVE PEOPLE.”
TRUMP ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE MEETING WITH REPORTERS IN THE OVAL OFFICE …
“I thought it was a really good meeting. It was about cutting because everybody knows the country’s way out of control in terms of the number of people.”
I want the cabinet members to keep good people. I don’t want to see a big cut where a lot of good people are cut.
TRUMP’S STATEMENTS ARE SEEN AS A WAY OF “REINING IN” MUSK’S OVERHAUL OF THE FEDERAL WORKFORCE, WHICH HAS BEEN WIDLEY CRITICIZED BY DEMOCRATS WHILE REPUBLICANS HAVE BEEN FACING BACKLASH FROM THEIR CONSTITUENTS AS MUSK’S CUTS ARE BEING FELT BY VOTERS.
HIS ORDERS HAVE ALREADY ALTERED THE FUTURE OF SEVERAL AGENCIES INCLUDING THE SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION, NOW CLOSING DOZENS OF OFFICES NATIONWIDE.
ACCORDING TO POLITICO – MUSK JOINED THE CONVERSATION AT THURSDAY’S CABINET MEETING AGREEING WITH TRUMP’S DIRECTIVE … ALSO ACKNOWLEDGING THAT DOGE HAS MADE SOME “MISSTEPS.”
IT’S NOT CLEAR WHETHER THE NEW GUIDANCE WILL RESULT IN LAID OFF WORKERS GETTING REHIRED.
MEANWHILE, DOGE CONTINUES TO FACE LEGAL SCRUTINY WITH SEVERAL LAWSUITS AS JUDGES EXPRESS FRUSTRATION AT THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION’S INABILITY TO EXPLAIN WHO IS REALLY IN CHARGE OF THE GOVERNMENT OVERHAUL EFFORT.
TRUMP CALLING MUSK THE “HEAD” OF DOGE CONTRADICTS THE WHITE HOUSE’S CLAIM LAST MONTH, THAT MUSK HAD NO INDEPENDENT AUTHORITY TO MAKE POLICY DECISIONS.
THE LAWSUITS ALLEGE MUSK HAS BEEN EXERCISING UNCONSTITUTIONAL POWER FOR A GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL WHO HAS NOT BEEN CONFIRMED BY THE SENATE.

The Trump administration reportedly started investigating databases to identify visa holders arrested but permitted to stay in the U.S. during the Biden administration.
An official also revealed they’re examining media reports about pro-Palestinian protests and lawsuits from Jewish students accusing foreign nationals of committing antisemitic acts at universities.
Officials said the agency is working with the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security to identify foreign nationals deemed threats to national security.
How many people has the program analyzed?
The “Catch and Revoke” program reportedly examined 100,000 individuals within the Student Exchange Visitor System since October 2023. The program aims to find out if any visas were revoked because of student arrests or school suspensions.
A State Department source accused the Biden administration of ignoring the issue. The source said the administration didn’t revoke any visas during former President Joe Biden’s term.

What have critics said?
The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) and pro-Palestinian groups said artificial intelligence isn’t reliable for identifying whose visas to cancel.
A FIRE scholar said AI “cannot be relied on to parse the nuances of expression about complex matters like the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
The American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee argued that it is “an alarming erosion of constitutionally protected free speech and privacy rights.”

THE U-S STATE DEPARTMENT IS LAUNCHING AN A-I-POWERED “CATCH AND REVOKE” PROGRAM TO CANCEL VISAS OF FOREIGN NATIONALS IT IDENTIFIES AS SUPPORTING HAMAS OR OTHER TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS.
THE MOVE REPORTED BY AXIOS THURSDAY CITING SENIOR STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS.
OFFICIALS SAY THE EFFORT INCLUDES REVIEWS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS APPEARING TO SYMPATHIZE WITH DESIGNATED TERRORIST GROUPS BUT DIDN’T REVEAL SPECIFICS ON HOW A-I IS EMPLOYED IN THE PROCESS.
THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION IS REPORTEDLY LOOKING INTO DATABASES TO FIND ANY VISA HOLDERS ARRESTED BUT ALLOWED TO REMAIN IN THE U-S DURING THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION.
AN OFFICIAL ALSO REVEALED THEY’RE EXAMINING MEDIA REPORTS OF PRO-PALESTINIAN PROTESTS AND JEWISH STUDENTS’ LAWSUITS ACCUSING FOREIGN NATIONALS OF ENGAGING IN ANTISEMITIC ACTS AT UNIVERSITIES.
OFFICIALS SAY THE AGENCY IS WORKING IN CONCERT WITH THE DEPARTMENTS OF JUSTICE AND HOMELAND SECURITY TO IDENTIFY FOREIGN NATIONALS THEY DEEM AS THREATS TO NATIONAL SECURITY.
THE “CATCH AND REVOKE” PROGRAM REPORTEDLY EXAMINED 100,000 INDIVIDUALS WITHIN THE STUDENT EXCHANGE VISITOR SYSTEM SINCE OCTOBER 2023 TO DETERMINE IF ANY VISAS WERE REVOKED BECAUSE OF A STUDENT’S ARRESTS OR SUSPENSIONS FROM SCHOOL.
A STATE DEPARTMENT SOURCE ACCUSED THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION OF TURNING A BLIND EYE TO THE ISSUE, SAYING ZERO VISAS WERE REVOKED UNDER THE FORMER PRESIDENT.
FREE SPEECH ADVOCATES ARE RAISING CONCERNS THE EFFORT VIOLATES THE FIRST AMENDMENT.
THE FOUNDATION FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS AND EXPRESSION OR FIRE AND PRO-PALESTINIAN GROUPS SAY ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ISN’T A RELIABLE TOOL TO IDENTIFY WHOSE VISAS TO CANCEL.
A SCHOLAR AT FIRE SAYS A-I “CANNOT BE RELIED ON TO PARSE THE NUANCES OF EXPRESSION ABOUT COMPLEX AND CONTESTED MATTERS LIKE THE ISRAELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT.”

Republicans must cut Medicaid to fund Trump’s agenda, budget office says
By Ray Bogan (Political Correspondent), Snorre Wik (Photographer/Editor)
- Analysis from the Congressional Budget Office shows Republicans will have no choice but to cut Medicaid in order to fund President Trump’s policy priorities. The CBO showed funds available to be cut only amount to one-sixth of what Republicans need.
- Republicans want to cut $880 billion from the Energy and Commerce Committee’s jurisdiction, but only $135 billion can be cut without slashing Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

The House budget resolution, approved Feb. 25, requires the Energy and Commerce Committee to find $880 billion in budget cuts for fiscal years 2025 through 2034. Over that time period, the budget office determined that when taking Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program out of the equation, the committee only has only $135 billion to work with.
The committee is responsible for $8.2 trillion in Medicaid spending over the next decade.

The analysis was done at the request of Rep. Frank Pallone, D-N.J., and Brendan Boyle, D-Pa., the ranking members of the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Budget Committee.
“The reality is the only way Republicans can cut at least $880 billion within the Energy and Commerce Committee’s jurisdiction is by making deep, harmful cuts to Americans’ health care,” Pallone said in a statement. “Republicans know their spin is a lie, and the truth is they have no problem taking health care away from millions of Americans so that the rich can get richer and pay less in taxes than they already do.”
The Congressional Budget Office is a nonpartisan research department that Congress created to help make informed budget policy decisions.
“This is a complete betrayal of the middle class, and Democrats will keep fighting to stop them. The American people deserve to know just how much pain Republicans are willing to inflict on their own constituents to reward their billionaire donors,” Boyle stated.
Republican leaders say they will not cut benefits, but will look to cut waste fraud and abuse.
“Go do a word search of the budget resolution that we passed on Tuesday. There is not one mention of Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security. It’s not in the bill because we haven’t set the policy,” Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said on “Meet the Press” Sunday. “What we’re trying to do is get America back on sound fiscal ground.”

Even if Republican leadership tries to cut Medicaid benefits, it’s not clear rank and file members would let them. Republican lawmakers in states and districts with many Medicaid recipients are saying publicly and repeatedly that they will not support that.
“Anything that slashes into benefits for people who are working I’m not gonna be for it. I think that’s probably true to a lot of my colleagues,” Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo said.
In a Congress with tight margins, individuals have a lot of power when they threaten not to vote for a bill unless something they want is either added or removed. More than enough members to sink the bill have already said they’d use their leverage.

US State Dept. reestablishes Houthis as ‘foreign terrorist organization’
By Karah Rucker (Anchor), Evan Hummel (Producer), Harry Fogle (Video Editor)

What is Secretary of State Marco Rubio saying?
“Since 2023, the Houthis have launched hundreds of attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as U.S. service members defending freedom of navigation and our regional partners,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement. “Most recently, the Houthis spared Chinese-flagged ships while targeting American and allied vessels.”
What has changed since the Biden administration?
The Iran-backed militants have launched attacks against more than 100 commercial ships with missiles and drones since the start of Israel’s war against Hamas in 2023.

What is the current situation in Yemen?
In February 2025, the United Nations announced it suspended humanitarian operations in a northern province of Yemen as Houthi rebels have detained dozens of U.N. staffers in recent months.
How bad is the humanitarian crisis?
The U.N. predicts more than 19 million people across Yemen will need humanitarian assistance with malnutrition, cholera and other impacts from an ongoing war between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
A source associated with the Houthi rebels told Newsweek that the group considers the designation as a “badge of honor” and claims it will harm the U.S. rather than serve its economic interests.
