Two workers were killed and another injured at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Tuesday, Aug. 27. WSB-TV reported that a tire on a plane exploded, killing one Delta employee and a contract worker.

Delta Air Lines issued a statement expressing heartbreak over the incident.
“We have extended our full support to family members and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time,” the airline said in the statement. “The Delta family is grateful for the quick action of first responders and medical teams on site. We are now working with local authorities and conducting a full investigation to determine what happened.”
Atlanta airport officials also released a statement on X, saying they send their condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
Local authorities and Delta are investigating the tire explosion and are working to find a cause.
LAUREN TAYLOR: TWO WORKERS WERE KILLED AND ANOTHER INJURED AT A DELTA AIR LINES MAINTENANCE FACILITY NEAR ATLANTA’S HARTSFIELD-JACKSON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TUESDAY.
WSB-TV REPORTED THAT A TIRE ON A PLANE EXPLODED, KILLING ONE DELTA EMPLOYEE AND A CONTRACT WORKER.
SEVERAL ATLANTA FIRE UNITS AND POLICE RESPONDED TO THE MAINTENANCE HANGAR SHORTLY AFTER 5 A-M.
DELTA AIR LINES ISSUED A STATEMENT EXPRESSING HEARTBREAK OVER THE INCIDENT SAYING:
“WE HAVE EXTENDED OUR FULL SUPPORT TO FAMILY MEMBERS AND COLLEAGUES DURING THIS INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT TIME. THE DELTA FAMILY IS GRATEFUL FOR THE QUICK ACTION OF FIRST RESPONDERS AND MEDICAL TEAMS ON SITE. WE ARE NOW WORKING WITH LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND CONDUCTING A FULL INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENED.”
ATLANTA AIRPORT OFFICIALS ALSO RELEASED A STATEMENT ON X SAYING THEY SEND THEIR CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILIES AFFECTED BY THE TRAGEDY.
LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND DELTA ARE INVESTIGATING THE TIRE EXPLOSION – AND ARE WORKING TO FIND A CAUSE.
