Book bans represent latest chapter in right wing need for control
Banning books at schools is just one step in the right wing strategy to control curricula and ensure students learn to conform to the conservative worldview. Maus is the latest book on the right’s “do not read” list. A Tennessee school board recently voted to ban the Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust because of…

Mr. President, go ahead and nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court, but do it fast
President Biden is promising to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court, and while critics are taking aim at his plan, it’s critical that he make a move sooner rather than later. Biden’s nominee will take the place of Stephen Breyer, a liberal who recently announced his retirement. It will not change the balance of…

Trump rallies are a sure sign he’s already plotting 2024 run
If for some reason you’ve decided to seek out and watch former President Donald Trump’s rallies in 2022, be aware that it’s just the same old, same old. At his first rally of the new year, in Arizona, Trump whined about the stolen election that wasn’t, insulted Democrats, claimed they’re destroying the nation one “woke”…

Low expectations are not hard to meet, but what about Biden’s next three years?
One way to assess President Biden’s first year in office is looking back at expectations. Given mine were pretty low for Joe – and considering the alternative – he did okay. He put four major accomplishments on the board, but the real test for him lies ahead in the next three years. Let’s start with…

AOC’s Miami vacation controversy is much ado about nothing
Outside of Hillary Clinton, there is no bigger trigger for the Republican outrage machine than New York democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She displayed the power she has to send grown men into apoplectic fits of rage over the New Year’s holiday when she made headlines for daring to take a vacation to Miami. While it…

U.S. democracy more at risk one year after January 6 Capitol riots
Has anything changed one year after the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021? As federal officials conduct the largest criminal investigation in FBI history as a result of that crisis, is our democracy more secure? Do we have any reason to believe the next elections won’t end in another violent and deadly insurrection?…

The best strategy for Democrats in 2022? Let the GOP tear itself apart
The continued divisions and feuding within the Republican Party could be great news for Democrats as they head into the all-important 2022 midterm elections. Conventional wisdom and past political history suggest Democrats will lose control of the House, costing them their slim control of Congress. But the ongoing fighting inside the GOP could be a…

Thanks to Mark Meadows, we discovered that a “coup PowerPoint” existed
As the Justice Department contemplates prosecuting former Trump Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on contempt of Congress charges, don’t get distracted by the noise and false outrage from House Republicans. The fact is, Meadows is a central figure in the House committee’s probe into the January 6 insurrection, primarily because he was in contact with…

GOP ignores family values after Michigan school shooting
After the latest school shooting, Republicans are showing their true colors. On November 30, 2021, 15-year-old Ethan Crumbley allegedly shot and killed four of his fellow students and injured seven at Oxford High School in Michigan. Typically in these situations, the right wing will stand on the principle of family values and shout: Where were…

Here are three reasons Dr. Fauci is a GOP punching bag
Why is Dr. Anthony Fauci a punching bag for the right? He’s considered one of the world’s leading immunologists, has served this country for more than 50 years, and is currently President Biden’s chief medical advisor. Yet since the coronavirus pandemic began spreading globally, Republicans have shredded him in the media, grilled him on Capitol…

Too soon to declare inflation crisis. Partisan finger-pointing masks real causes.
Inflation is a reality. We are all experiencing it at the grocery store, the gas pump, and just about everywhere else. But is it President Biden’s fault? Republicans think so, but let’s get one thing straight here: Joe Biden is not to blame for rising prices, especially at the pump. Presidents don’t have much power…

Democrats, you are at risk of disaster in 2022. Do something about it.
When voters return to the polls for the midterm election in November 2022, the results could be disastrous for the Democratic Party. Why are the Dems in such dire straits? There are four main reasons including the simple fact that Joe Biden won the White House in 2020, redistricting is under way, Republicans are building…

Big Bird the latest victim of GOP campaign to “own the libs”
Republicans have found a new target for their performative outrage: Big Bird. The beloved feathered muppet from “Sesame Street” found himself at the center of the GOP’s latest culture war when he declared on Twitter he had received the COVID-19 vaccine. Even though Big Bird has endorsed child vaccinations going all the way back to the…

Hawley’s masculinity claims mask the real issues
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) is garnering attention by talking about masculinity. During an address to the National Conservatism Conference, Hawley declared that the left is attacking manhood and, as a result, more and more men are sitting idle. If you’re scratching your head and asking, “What,” you are not alone. Hawley’s commentary is outlandish and,…
