Don’t expect the Fed to stop raising interest rates anytime soon
The Federal Reserve’s aggressive approach to corral inflation has not made a significant impact. Given that, it’s no surprise that the central bank reportedly has no plans to cut rates in 2023. The question is, how much higher can rates go? Straight Arrow News contributor Larry Lindsey says it’s too early to know for certain.…

The Fed’s huge rate increases are covering for past mistakes
When the Federal Reserve suggested it could continue its sharp rate hikes in November and December, the markets plummeted on mounting recession fears. A survey of 400 CEOs shows a staggering 91% believe a recession is bound to happen within the next 12 months. Some analysts believe wages and employment don’t have to come down to…

Fauci’s legacy stained by COVID and by staying too long
Now that Dr. Anthony Fauci has announced plans to step down as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, some are re-assessing his legacy. Powell’s tough talk on inflation and rate hikes helps his credibility
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell announced a second .75% increase in the federal funds rate following the Fed’s July meeting. A month later, at a speech in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Powell was more emphatic about how lowering inflation would mean slower growth, a softer labor market and economic pain for many households. Straight Arrow News…

Pelosi’s Taiwan visit puts pressure on Chairman Xi and Biden
With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) Taiwan trip in the history books, the dust has yet to settle on China and U.S. relations. China responded to her visit with large-scale military exercises which the Biden administration characterized as an overreaction. The U.S. in turn conducted its own missile test, one with nuclear capabilities, to demonstrate…

Can we trust the Federal Reserve to figure out inflation?
Americans received some long-overdue relief as the annual inflation rate slowed to 8.5% in July. The Federal Reserve’s recent interest rate hikes aim to cool inflation without causing a recession. Lockdowns hit China and US hard, but in different ways
When lockdowns started soon after COVID-19 hit, nobody could have predicted the unintended short and long-term consequences. Straight Arrow News contributor Larry Lindsey argues the costs to both the U.S.…

President Biden wants more oil from Saudi Arabia
Lower Russian oil supply, declining U.S. refining capacity, slower oil production post-pandemic — these are a number of factors causing today’s high U.S. oil and gas prices.
