I hate to tell you, but inflation isn’t going away anytime soon
There is understandable concern over the soaring inflation rate, which has risen an alarming 6.2% in the last year. A number of factors contribute to the increase. I already pointed out plummeting consumer confidence as one reason. A labor market with millions of Americans quitting their jobs is another. Now we have consumer prices jumping .9% in…

Economic spiral means inflation is here to stay
America’s economy is in a spiral, and lagging consumer confidence is the driving force. It’s showing up as millions of people are quitting their jobs at a record pace. One reason for the great resignation is when you leave a job, you often get a pay hike in the next one. When businesses pay employees…

Opinion: Consumers hoarding out of fear as inflation soars
When we talk about hoarding, we probably think of a house full of stacks of books, drawers packed with tchotchkes, and knick-knacks piled from floor to ceiling mostly because people can’t get rid of their stuff. But during the present economic situation with inflation continuing to soar, hoarding is becoming the manifestation of consumer fear.…

Opinion: 2021 election a setback for Democrats, not truly a win for Trump
Republicans are celebrating a big win in the race for Virginia governor with Glenn Youngkin defeating Terry McAuliffe. However, this outcome is not a clear victory for Trump Republicans. Youngkin won while distancing himself from Donald Trump, appealing to voters who did not come out for the former president. At the same time, allegations of…

Opinion: Mask mandates are proof of Democrats’ elitism and hypocrisy
The out-of-control hysterics we hear from the Left about wearing masks and trying to impose mask mandates continue, even as the vaccination rates continue to climb across the U.S. What makes it even more frustrating is the sheer hypocrisy from some prominent Democrats, like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez. They seem to…

Opinion: Will Americans keep putting up with public schools?
While the pandemic disrupted schools nationwide, it also provided a new window into what is happening in the classroom. The fallout is on display as parents express concerns about curriculum, raising the question: are we spending money wisely on public education? The school debate is also playing out in the race for Governor in Virginia…

Opinion: Democrats playing tricks in D.C. swamp
A secret deal between Democrats in the budget battle brought more chaos to an already contentious situation. The backroom negotiations centered on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) privately promising to give Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) exactly what he wanted at a much lower cost than the $3.5 trillion others were discussing. Meanwhile, House Speaker…

Opinion: Follow the data on COVID
Should you get the COVID-19 vaccine? What about the booster? And how effective are those masks anyway? We hear a lot of opinions and official recommendations based on the science. It’s hard to consider all of this without thinking about how it impacts the economy and the labor market. When faced with a choice between…

Opinion: What are the real questions around the debt ceiling debate?
As a country, the United States borrows a lot of money. We’re talking about trillions of dollars. But there is a limit. It’s called the debt ceiling, and it’s up for debate in Washington, D.C. You are certainly going to hear a great deal of panic about deadlines and fears of a government shutdown. Let’s…

Opinion: What’s the future of inflation?
Certainly you’ve noticed that life is more expensive and countless jobs are going unfilled. Are you wondering why this is happening and how it’s going to play out? It’s no coincidence that we are experiencing this inflation and tight labor market at the same time. The two factors are closely tied, linked by paychecks. When…
