Native American students miss school at higher rates. It only got worse during the pandemic

Native American students have absenteeism rates at least 9% higher than the state average in half of 34 states during the 2022-2023 school year, according to The Associated Press. Causes for absenteeism include anxiety and unstable living conditions, as stated by Jason Jones, a cultural success coach.

The chronic absenteeism rate in the district improved from 76% to 59% in the 2023-2024 school year due to efforts addressing community needs, according to Superintendent Deborah Dennison.
